L'artisan Pastellier Callifolio Gris De Payne

I never like low saturation inks, nor am I a fan of grey inks. So when I was getting some inks from a brand called "L'Artisan Pastellier" (artisan of pastels) I didn't have much expectation from them. Actually Gris de Payne was added into my order because I wanted "not to waste the shipping fee" and that GdP is one of their proudest colours (they have the colour of GdP for their other products too).

However, it turns out I'm quite fond of this one. It's quite an interesting and unique colour. It's a subtle and delicate grey, leaning on the blue/teal side.

Splash

(As usual the splash shows a much saturated colour. But my, isn't it gorgeous!)

This is beautiful. It makes me want to dilute an existing blue black in my collections and see what happens.

I like inks with low saturation and I like my greys. Sorry Lgsoltek. This ticks both boxes and thanks to a fellow FPNr I've enjoyed using it loads.

Thanks for your review. Really accurate too.

I've always been sort of fond of Payne's Grey as a paint color (from back when I was an art student). So I had been wondering about this ink. Looks as if there's going to be another row in the "Inks to Buy" spreadsheet....

Thanks for the review. And, well, not....

@ gylyf -- Have you had a look at Bonne Espérance? I don't think it's too watery.

No, I haven't! I tried around four or five Callifolio inks and just wasn't enamored of any of them. Maybe it's time to reconsider, though!

If you mean GdP then yes. If you mean Grey Plum then not so much... I'm just using it as a black...

Agreed.

I gave my Grey Plum to The Inksters for redistribution - too plum, not enough grey for me. Others seem to like it though.

Okay, I love Bender and I personally know the real Bender (after whom the character was modeled), but I still don't like this ink. It's too undersaturated.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Ooh! Pretty! I really like this teal-gray.

I just bought some Califolio Grenat the other day, but this is calling to me.

Definitely goes on the list!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
