Cross Radiance Fp V Cross Solo Fp ?

Dear Colleagues,

Can anyone tell me if the Cross Radiance Fountain Pen has the same nib as the Cross Solo Fountain pen ? - they appear to look virtually the same, except the radiance model appears a little more adorned with gold. Is the nib performance the same on both pens ? ( Namiki ).

Thank you guys,

Thanks USKIS,

Is the nib a good writer ? ( no skipping and smooth ). Most of the Cross Pens I have owned were quite heavy to hold - the radiance and solo models seem to be the lightest ( almost as light as the Lamy Safari's ). I had two Cross Townsend models - as nice as as they were - I couldn't write with them for long periods and had to sell them.

Thanks.

Hi Kavanagh,

I've got 3 Solo from ebay, 1 fine nib and 2 mediums, both run like Japanese sizes. All write beautiful, smooth and no skipping. I've got them to convert into Parker Big Red, 'cause I like more their bodies, a bit more heavier. So now I have 3 Solo bodies not in use and the fine nib is too extra fine for me...

The Solo's body is light indeed!

Has anybody tried putting in a Solo section to Parker Big Red Ballpoint from the 1970's ?

It is a near perfect fit and looks very cool.

Not working! The rollerball section cannot screw into Solo's body, also the ridges are too big to fit inside the tapered cap.

But you can use a Pilot Metro/78G section into Solo's body!

? The Solo fountain pen section screws into the Big Red 1970s ballpoint perfectly. I have such a Big Red with Solo section and Sonnet 18K nib.

I have Cross Solo, Parker Big Red, Pilot Metropolitan and 78G. I have played with them:

You can get Solo and Pilot section into Big Red.

You can get Pilot section into Solo, but not the Big red section into Solo.

You cannot get any other section from Solo and Big Red into Pilot!

I didn't bother with Pilot, because I have never liked them.

Interesting quote given that the nib on the Solo was made by Pilot

All my pilots dried up too fast. Faster than Solo. So, it's not always as simple or interesting as one might think.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
