Hello! My name is Shane, I'm new to this site and am very happy to converse with like minded individuals who are into the same pen obsession that I'm just getting into. South paw here, and proud of it! Say hey!

Hello, Shane, and welcome to the Fountain Pen Network. Glad you have joined us. This is now your place as much as it is ours. Please don't be shy. Ask all the questions you have and don't hesitate to state your opinions. I hope you enjoy your time here.

Well yes my favorite ink as of this moment is dark lilac which is a nice sheening ink that has gold tones with a deep rich purple. My favorite paper as of this moment is marker paper by Canson. It's showing nicer results than tomoe river for sheens and has zero bleeding.

Hello, and welcome from the east side of Orange county. If you haven't already, stop by Sam Flax downtown on Colonial. They have a nice FP department and a decent selection. Very limited supply of inks other than cartridges, but the folks are friendly and like to talk pens.

Thank you very much for that recommendation! I have yet to find/meet a person, in person that shares love for fountain pens. I'm excited to check this place out. And thank you to both of you floridians for welcoming me. I actually just moved to this state, for school... and miss my home dearly, never thought I'd say this but I miss the snow.. but I've found what I needed to to like Orlando and the people here. I hope someday we may possibly cross paths and nerd out over pens 😂. ,cheers!

You are welcome. I am a transplant as well, but I don't miss the snow. LOL. Perhaps we can organize an Orlando pen meetup sometime. It's rare for me to find anyone face to face as well. That's why I enjoy this forum.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
