De Atramentis Pearlescent Camelien Red

I think the biggest and possibly the sole problem with these inks is that they are extremely way too wet and cause feathering and bleedthrough in all kinds of paper I use. It seems that inks with particles from J. Herbin, Diamine or DA are wetter than their regular inks, probably due to the need to prevent clogging. But personally I think the problem is overcompensated with DA inks. Their wetness has gone to the other extreme opposite of clogging. For me these inks are not really usable. Sorry Dr. J but unless the flow is tamed, I can't recommend these inks (except maybe the copper one).

Camelien Red has a nice base colour. My favourite particles for this colour is bronze and copper. But the bronze one feathers horribly. Among these four the copper one behaves the best: it is the only one that doesn't feather nor bleed. This one I can recommend.

Splash

(You will notice how terrible the feathering is in the splash cards. Note that the parts with the particles are actually where the ink has been put on paper, and the coloured parts without particles are the result of feathering.)

(Personally I think the best use for glittering inks is for broad nibs and calligraphy pens. That's why I used a Pilot Parallel 2.4 to do this review. Behaviour-wise, Copper is the best, followed by Silver. Gold and especially Bronze are just horror.)

(I think the copper one is really good.)

I should add that when I was doing the splashes with a syringe, it happened to me several times that the particles sort of "glued" together into a blob and clogged the needle. And similar things have happened when I wrote with the corner of the Parallel Pen: the particles came together and clogged the parallel nib.

These inks are not the easiest to clean. They don't stain (so far), the particles are fairly easy to get rid of. But I noticed that the particles go past the rubber stops in my syringe and my converter, hence the difficulty in cleaning these parts.

I had the needle clog also.

Considering the high quality paper I see that you were using, the feather is unconscionable. Thank you for the great review!

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

If this feathering is to be expected from bottles purchased through Massdrop, what are we to do? Such feathering on quality paper is disappointing. I probably won't open what I receive.

I'd mix it with a an otherwise boring ink.

I intend to sell mine ASAP. They are apparently already shipping. Someone on Reddit got theirs yesterday.

Source? I am part of the drop and just got an update saying they're delayed another week, and will not start shipping until 12/19 at the earliest.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
