Force,

It may be described as a Stub, however, what does it appear to be up close? It seems more like a " Scrub ", from the pic.

Are you going to attempt to have a go at that one? If anyone can repair it, that would be you!

If your out-go is more than your income,

Then your up-keep.

May be your Down-falll!!!

It was a Marine Amber being sold by a Charity Shop on ebay.

The picture was taken by the seller and described as Stub. It looks Medium if anything to me but one never knows.

All the pictures were very poor and it was described as having a few scratches to the lacquer and in used condition.

We will see soon so perhaps a project pen.

I thought it looked like a medium also. I like the amber marine, and it was the reason why I became interested in the Carene. It is beautiful. It's too bad if the lacquer is damaged, though.

Well the point is a fine and in very good condition.

The lacquer has a few very minor scratches.

Not a bad buy for £37

I think I recall something similar. It has leaky ears but I am not unhappy.

I have flushed it again and its currently drying out ready to repair.

  • 4 weeks later...

Another gamble found on on the sticky tree sale site...while I was out hunting Edsons.

Apparently an unwanted pen bought at Harrods.

The pen (post #10) has arrived and as I always say, good or bad my report.

A very slightly bent nib and 1 chip to the lacquer. The nib is not a problem, more annoyed with the chip. It's only small but peps just don't like them.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
