Thank you for doing the writing sample lapis. It's interesting to see the comparison.

Does anyone else have Lamy Lilac and any other similar ink? I'd be interested in seeing other comparisons.

Unfortunately the one fill that I had (filled for me from the last bottle Vancouver Pen Store had) when I purchased my Lamy2000 is now gone so I would be unable to do a direct trial.

Absolutely no Lamy Dark Lilac ink , in bottle or cartridge on German Ebay :headsmack: :( :crybaby:

....no MB Racing Green either. :happyberet:

I checked today and saw Lamy Dark Lilac Cartridges on Amazon.co.uk (don't know about the P&P) , and on ebay.co.uk with Worldwide P&P.

I just checked the P&P on the ebay listing and can see why it would put people off. I could ship a pack of cartridges for less

Check out Diamine Pansy.

Pansy! I'll buy that!! Here's a pinch of the two I had already added above... plus the Pansy and a couple of others which popped into mind....

It is slightly redder, its sheen is better than De A's Aubergine, and almost as great as Lamy's.

De A's Pearl Violet and Document Ink Violet are worst off (in comparison to Lamy's Dark Lilac). The Pearl Violet is in fact darker than the Pansy but still somehow muddier and by far the wettest of all five here. The Doc Violet may be water resistent but it still made the most watery impression. It also leans more towards a magenta.

If I didn't have any Lamy Dark Lilac but needed it violently, I'd go for the Aubergine or the Pansy (the latter of which is, yes, available in a whole, single 30-ml bottle).

In the meantime I have found peace with Diamine Purple Pizzazz. Looks good in the dark lilac pen,and the shimmer covers the sheen and then some. Definitely saved me from paying rediculous limited edition prices.

For those interested in looking for Dark Lilac alternatives:

1) I've been running a thread in the CRV sub-forum with people sending in comparisons of Dark Lilac to other inks.

2) There's a thread in the Comparisons forum discussing alternatives, and recipes for duplicating Dark Lilac:

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
