Of Pens, Men, And Penrolls ...

Hello !

I understood I'm allowed to post here, for once ... I hope I understood well  ... So, let me explain.

My husband collects pens (I do too, but he has many more than me :D) , and asked me about 2 years ago to sew him penrolls. I made the pattern to match his wishes and he proudly showed the penrolls to friends, and a friend asked me if I would sew a penroll for him. And I agreed, so I sewed and sold one penroll, then another friend asked for another penroll, and another one and ... so many penrolls (to my opinion !) that this summer I started a small regular/official home-run business.

It's really small as I can sew only 1 to 2 penrolls a week, depending on the time left by my real job (sewing helps me to relax after a hard work day ...)

(it's a regular/official business now, but the aim is not to earn a living ... just ... having fun, and to have pocket money to buy new fabrics and ... most of all ... foutain pens and inks  . Most of my husband's friends have their pen rolls, I must look for new customers  )

Enough chatting, please have a look on the pictures : just click to see them larger ;)

All the pen rolls are one of a kind, often with japanese style fabrics because that's what I'm asked for. Most of them are made from cotton fabrics, and sometimes silk for the outside.

If you want more information, feel free to contact me or have a look on my facebook page (search for "la Fée Jaja bosse").

And I hope that friends of my husband who are on FPN (I know many of them are reading) will come here to say "hello, her penrolls are fantastic, I can't imagine living without mine now !!! ;) )

One pen roll, two pen rolls, three pen rolls ... So many pen rolls ! Do you want one ?

my tiny shop is open and you can have a closer look on my website to see my cotton (and sometimes silk) OOAK penrolls.

I think so, but I don't know when, maybe in a couple of weeks, months ... (I'm a bit fed up with the sakuras, I sew too many pen rolls with them, I have to make a pause with them ...).

You have to "stay tuned" to my FB page or tiny shop, I'm sorry ...

But most of the fabrics I use are with asian design ... (i think there will be Sakuras and koi fish in January ...)

Oh, made a mistake to visit this thread. I'm hunger for a pen roll from you now. :lticaptd:

Luckily, your Etsy shop is empty now, so my wallet is saved. But will check back later right after you get something there.

I think there won't be anything until the end of the month, I can't make correct pictures now.

And before sewing new penrolls, I want to make something to carry pens and a small notebook ...

Very nice, I really like the style! I am more the less flashy type person, I really like the tan one in the lower corner of your first post! What type fabric is that and is there any chance it will make a return engagement to your machine?

Thanks a lot !

This one was made of kimono silk for the outside part, and cotton for the inside part. I still have the silk fabric, and yes, there is a chance it returns :) (But I don't know when ... ).

But "stay tuned" (on FB ...) the next pen rolls I'll sew will be dark blue with only a hint of grey or very light tan :) and may suit you ! (cotton fabrics)

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
