I've heard that the release date for these new inks is 4th November; Fountain Pen Day, so I'm posting separate reviews for them on here. I assume they will come in the same type of bottles as the previous set of shimmer inks, but I haven't seen the retail bottles yet.

  • Currently I only have samples that Diamine very kindly sent me to test, and to review 'if I wanted to', but I've noticed that my samples don't need much shaking to mix the particles in, and the pens need very little shaking once they are filled.

  • Generally speaking, I found all 12 of these new shimmer inks to be wetter than all of the other shimmer inks I have used.

  • I have had these inks in these pens for over 2 weeks now. Every pen/ink combination has started straight away without a problem, and I have experienced no stopping or skipping.

  • Some take longer to dry than others, and a couple just soaked into the paper straight away. The most saturated inks will show through and bleed through on cheap paper.

  • None of them are waterproof inks.

Diamine Shimmer Moon Dust is a light/medium grey ink that is darker than Diamine Silver Fox, but not as dark as the previous Night Sky dark grey shimmer ink. It's easy to read though. It's not a particularly saturated ink and comes with silver shimmer. It makes this a great silver ink. The silver shimmer shows up quite easily. I used a Lamy Nexx M that has a M nib and I had no trouble seeing the silver effect. This ink is quite wet and has lovely shading.

The first picture is a scanned review form, and the second is a photo. These have been adjusted with Photoshop to get the colour you see to look as close as possible to the actual ink colour.

Thank you for the sneak peek. I have a fondness for grey inks, and this one looks really tempting. I'm not normally into shimmering inks, but in this case the combination of colour and shimmer seems to work. On my wish list !

This silver ink was one of my favourites when the original testing started.  :)

Thank you, and you're welcome. :)

I have loved the silver since it was originally sent out for evaluation and testing before the first 10 inks were released. Sadly, it didn't make the final 10 in the first set, but I'm really pleased it's now in the line-up. I'm sure it will be popular.  :)

How does this compare to Stormy Grey? That one just depressed me- the only ink I've ever sold.

J.Herbin Stormy Grey is still a shade of grey but it has gold particles. So when you write with it, it doesn't look like a silver ink as Moon Dust does with it's silver particles.  :)

I never got any gold from my SG- just a depressing grey. Might have to look into Moon Dust and Blue Flame- blue with gold, my undergrad colors.

I have a bottle of this, firestorm red, emerald green, brandy dazzle, and blue flame, in addition to all the J. Herbin 1670's and both nemosine shimmering inks.

I have not really used any of them. They're just kind of novelties once I really tried using them. Fun in a noodlers flex pen, but I don't use shimmering inks in my increasingly expensive pens.

The sole exception is emerald of chivor, which has sheen for days.

I tend to only use my shimmer inks in some easier to disassemble C/C filling pens. Just in case. They work really well in my Pilot Custom 74 and my Parker Sonnet Moonbeam both with M nibs. The later inks seem wetter than the original ones to me, and that gives them better flow.
