Dear Friends,



It is my pleasure and honour to share the latest Shimmer Inks from Diamine due to be released this month. There are 12 colours and I have been able to review them all thanks to Diamine. I welcome your thoughts and feedback, as always.

I don't like shimmery inks, but I appreciate the effort you've put into these reviews and your beautiful handwriting!

Some of the base colours look really nice.

Thank you for your kind words, it has taken a while between work etc. Sometimes shimmer can detract from the base colours, but I have found this set to be a pleasant surprise and well balanced.

Sometimes I like the look of shimmer when I look at all those masterpieces that talented people are able to create with these inks. Calligraphy, drawings, splashes etc. - they can be really beautiful. But my personal relationship with glittery inks wouldn't be a happy one. I use my pens irregularly and I am aware of the fact that in such a case I wouldn't provide them with proper maintenance. What's more, I think I got a bit fed up with glitter when I was a little girl... In those times shimmering and pearlescent gel pens were a big thing for the little ones. All my friends had some, and somebody bought me even a set of 40! Enough glitter for a lifetime, and I wasn't a girly girl at all... :)

Neither am I a girlie girl and I do remember the sea of gel pens - I still have issues with certain scents..! I do wish I was artistic too and could create such ravishing beauty, but alas, no! I agree about the need for increased maintenance, as the shimmer does fill the fins of the feed eventually.

Thanks for the review. This is one for the "maybe..." list.

I hoped Diamine might include a darkish pink ink in the shimmer line-up. This is a nice one. :)

That has got to be one of the prettier inks I've seen. :wub:

I take it the new shimmer pink is lighter than this? I already have a bottle of Pink Glitz, supposedly for my 9-year-old daughter's sake, but I think I use it more than she does...

Thanks - will probably give this one a miss, then (I already have Diamine Hope Pink, which is also softer in presence... and love the way that Pink Glitz pops)!

      I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

      Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

      I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off.
