Here's my Tolstoy finally in working order with a before an after sample. They swapped the body out so at this point all that remains of my original pen is the cap.

Many years ago I sent an Oscar Wilde LE to Hamburg for a nib exchange. despite I never inked the pen MB Hamburg discovered some microscopic micro scatches on the nib and told me my original nib disqualifies for a free nib exchange. I've checked the nib before sending out and there were no visible flaws detectabel with the naked eye nor with a 10x eye piece. I ended up paying around 280USD and off course didn't get the original nib back. They kept it claiming that they want to avoid that this nib might end up in another pen. They further stated that they already deducted the "value" for my original nib which was a rediculous low amount!

I actualy should have pulled out the original nib and claim that it was lost if I anyway had to pay for a new nib.

I do have a love-hate relationship with Montblanc!

On the instruction manual of my Heritage 1912 they say that I have 1 year for the nib exchange. Then on the website and the guy at the boutique (Harrods) say only 6 weeks. I am bit confused...

 

Assuming your instruction manual is specific to your pen, then that applies as it is a written contract. The website and the person in the boutique are therefore incorrect.

 

I've seen the printed words in this thread and they are clear. The nib exchange is free during the first year assuming the nib is in as new condition.

I once sent a WE (Thomas Mann) to Mb for a free nib exchange. I had no problem getting the free nib exchange even though the pen was technically older than it's first year, as it had never been used.

 

The problem I had was that when the pen was returned with it's new nib, the feed fins had all been crushed. So that had to go back too. I complained that the QC was obviously lacking since something like that should have been picked up before sending the pen out. The then head of Mb UK Customer Services agreed with me and refunded my return mail cost. :mellow:

 

I didn't receive the original M nib back.

      Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

      Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy.
