Writer's Edition Obb?

I ended up sending it off. Mailed it the beginning of March, just a few days shy of the one year deadline. Received a funny look from the lady at UPS when I told her the amount I wanted it insured for after she found out it was a pen. I just spoke with MB requesting an update and they said the new nib just arrived from Germany and I should have it back in two to three weeks. Pretty fast turn around!

On the instruction manual of my Heritage 1912 they say that I have 1 year for the nib exchange. Then on the website and the guy at the boutique (Harrods) say only 6 weeks. I am bit confused...

Really?

 

I was going to nib exchange to B, but I was informed it was not a limited edition by a boutique so no.

 

So I got the same mixed message.

Email MB customer service. The standard is 6 weeks for a typical pen, but if you have printed materials fom MB stating 1 year and proof of purchase from an authorized dealer then you should be able to get the swap.

Limited editions have the 1 year nib exchange (but the nib should be "intact") ... I know that, I let them change M nib for bold B on my Charles D. WE few months ago

Do you consider the Heritage 1912 to be a LE ?

The Heritage 1912 is a special edition pen not a limited edition meaning that the pen is not part of the regular product line-up and was taken out of production after one year. The number of pens manufactured is not publicly known because this edition is not limited in this sense.

 

The pen will be available until it is sold out or MB decides to stop selling them.

Now, when I asked this to the guy at Harrods, he told me that the 1 year is s warranty on the nib. In case it has problems.. However my interpretation is that if you are not happy with the nib size, they have to swap it for free within 1 year.

We need more clarity!

You don't need to go through the dealer for a nib exchange. I just mailed mine straight to Montblanc along with the warranty book and a handwritten note explaining what I wanted done. If you are within your year my advice is to just bypass the seller and deal directly with MB.

I have mixed feelings about this. I was looking for the manual to check this before the year was up as I wasn't content with the fine nib. But it is lost in boxes after the house move.

 

If I had confirmed this before, I may not have tried the DIY grinding of the nib to a fine italic. I would have changed to a B.

 

It turned out so well I think I cannot regret it.

I received my Tolstoy back today with my OBB nib. It looks wonderful, does it not?

I thought so, but notice anything missing around the section? Here's a hint:

The ring fell right off when I inverted the pen to write. Also, it was apparently tested with some light purple ink that was not flushed out prior to shipping it back to me. I am not a happy customer right now. Of all my Montblancs, two have been new, modern purchases, this one and my 1912. I have now had problems with both of them. For the cost of these pens, I must say that the quality is severely lacking in my opinion. I don't think I will be purchasing any further modern MBs. Yes, going to send it back. Another six weeks without my pen. I forgot about my 149 that is with them now as well that started leaking ink out of the piston knob. It may be time to explore some other brands.

Completely unacceptable. Your pen should never have been dispatched without a proper check on the service/replacement work. Quality control should be of paramount importance.

 

And you should not have to go the back of the service line again. This should be repaired immediately by the service people.

Here's my Tolstoy finally in working order with a before an after sample. They swapped the body out so at this point all that remains of my original pen is the cap.
