In the 5 years I have been going to the local auctions in Janesville WI.

this was by far the most Parker Pens & parts I have seen in one place.

I have been collecting for 8yrs.

This auction was insane, crazy if you will. The local big money did there best to corral the stock. There was so much.. Modern Duofolds to P75's, Sonnets, Waterman pens, Vac's, P51's, P45's Jotters Jotters & Jotters. This was mind boggling. More money was spent on pens & parts today that I have ever seen before. I did my best to take a few photos of what was up for grabs. Some photos do overlap. Here goes.

The local big money did not have a chance with this

big money in town. Photo below.

The doctor, Brian McQueen & Robert of 5Star Pens.

I will tell you those 3 were overwhelm with the volume that was there.

I was talking to one of the local ebay sellers that if they where not at the auction

we could of had a better day and paid a lot less than what they were paying.

Just my thought on that.

They took 4 hours to sell all the pen items.

I managed to get these scrapes below.

I will need nibs for these but I know who to talk to.

For better photos of the items that were up for auction here is the link to the auctioneers website.

I am happy in what I bought. I know who to ask to obtain nibs for the pens I picked up.

Ken

P.S. I had a few more photos but I exceeded my limit on the post.

Another interesting bids, there were 4 bags of P51 filler units and

and at lest one bag sold for $500. I still can not believe the money that was spent today.

My head is hurting just thinking about it. I forgot to get photos of some of the repair tools. Some have vac material for handles. I have to sign off for now I'm hungry. If I think of any more topics & stories on this auction I'll post.

When you find that kind of quantity and quality (I presume) of things no longer in production, it doesn't surprise me that money was flowing. Finding bags of old parts is a whole different thing than a couple here or there.

I'm taking that's a good thing?

Yeah ;).

So while I'm at the pen ring, a couple boxes of pens come up mixed with the household items in the other ring, where the Wife is buying yarn and the like. The Wife thinks fast, gets into a bidding war on the boxes of pens, and emerges victorious. Tomorrow is sorting day...

One test is worth a thousand expert opinions.

One other note, at least the local gold scrapper did not get any of the nibs as he would have smashed them and sold them for gold content. The nibs were saved today.

Where did the huge quantity come from? It seems to me as if someone somehow got hold of a sizable Parker Factory stock at some point in the past and now came out with the same.

I assume more would come out.

The lot I noticed were never inked, and went for $35/each.

This was an estate sale. Lady worked at Parker 40yrs. mainly in the repair dept. I believed that Parker gave/let [ not sure ] take pens home. That might have been the practice? I wonder how they moved all the product when the plant shut down in 1999? Let employees take it home? Before my time in collecting. This was the most I have seen from an estate.

Ruth I'm not big money. Today I was selective and lucky in what I bought.

I do a few auctions here regularly, including one last Friday. I would call "big money" someone who is bidding without a set budget, nor any worry about getting the items they desire. I saw a guy at my auction bid $1400 for art prints that he didn't actually know the value of because there was an item he wanted in there.

In this quantity I would expect these were unauthorized disbursements from shelf stock.

Not necesarily unauthorized in regard to the pens without nibs, if they were pens sent in for repairs, which Parker was no longer completing and instead Parker sent replacements, the nibs would have been removed for recycling, while the rest of the pen would have been discarded, especially 30 to 50 years ago. And, many of the ballpoints may have been discontinued models which otherwise would have also been destroyed. But, the gold nibs !!! And the new old stock pens that are completely intact ?!?!

All I can say is I am glad the items were kept from being eliminated by Parker and will be coming into the marketplace eventually.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
