Cleaning A Sheaffer Legacy 2

SpecTP

Recommended Posts

Is there a good fast way to clean the Legacy 2? I got one with black ink and I've been flushing it over and over but there is still residual black ink left inside. It seems the easiest way is to just keep using the same ink for that sac-converter and use a cartridge if I want to opt for another ink.

Patience.

Also jess soak the converter.

And get an old style Sheaffer squeeze converter if you want to really clean out residual ink.

Is the old style squeeze converter like the Pilot CON20?

Kinda. It's a classic press bar. The converter you have is really the same converter but without the press bar.

The old press bar works just as well as the one you have.

If you want I will even test to see if the piston converter will fit in a Legacy or Legacy 2. If it is too long there is also the Intrigue converter that is piston type but with a short shaft.

The Intrique converters have a crown type knob that was supposed to engage the filler knob at the end. They usually stripped, and are getting to be hard to find.

As Jar noted, the squeeze converter is the same as the gold Legacy converter, except for the casing. Sheaffer engineers told me that they made them to "encourage" the owner to use the TD filler. I find the squeeze type to be easier to use when filling and flushing a pen, bypassing the TD filler.

well.. 2 days of soaking seems to have done it. got all the black ink out and filled it back up with some J Herbin Lierre Sauvage. Also got a couple of the squeeze converter on the way.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
