Tried To Buy A 149 - Several Retailers Out Of Stock?

I tried to buy a 149 at Heathrow duty free (seems like one of the cheaper places around the world to get a new one) for a gift and was told that they (and Harrods of which the MB store there is a part) are out of stock.

Then I tried to buy from MB in the USA and was told that they were out of stock of the classic yellow gold as well.

That made me wonder whether there was a problem with supply or if an update was going to be made soon?

Do the fine forum participants happen to know? I appreciate it is an expensive pen so they might keep stocks low but given its flagship status I was surprised.

Also any suggestions of a well priced place to purchase a new one for someone based in the US but a regular visitor to Europe would be appreciated.

Many thanks in advance

So the market is even tighter...

When's the next thread started asking if this site offering new 149s for $50 is legit?

~ Here in China, the yellow gold Meisterstück 149 is available on the Montblanc Web site.

No price increase, with a full range of nibs listed as available for exchange, other than the ‘by request only’ OBBB.

Major Montblanc boutiques in both Beijing and Shanghai have yellow gold 149s in stock in M, F and EF nibs as of this past weekend.

Ernest Jones the jewellers are Montblanc agents - though may be pricey.

Yesterday is history.

Tomorrow is a mystery.

Today is a gift.

That's why it's called the present

This model has been discontinued. :)

Can you please clarify? Do you mean the yellow gold standard 149 has been discontinued?

Here in the US, many retailers only seem to have fine and medium 149s in stock. Anything else has to be special ordered.

MB offers a nib exchange service (free of charge within 6 weeks of purchase).

Don't worry, it was a joke. I don't think that Montblanc will discontinue its flagship model.

But they certainly have many times in the past.

They're available plenty in my part of the world. Think it's just a matter of some stores doing a bad job in restocking after selling out.

:) I felt like I should become a doomsday prepper when you mentioned this!

That has been my experience also. Most boutiques and ADs would only carry F's and M's, although on occasion they do have B's and BB's.

Like Meiers kindly mentioned nib exchange is the only viable option most of the times.

On the international MB site I can still see the gold plated 149!

That's not unusual. Most Montblanc boutiques only keep medium and fine nibs in stock, because that's what they sell 99% of the time.

You can buy any pen with any nib, though. The boutique can order it for you.
