Scriptus Toronto 2016 Almost Here

Will there be a "bottle neck" at the entrance because folks are trying to get their quota of ordered special ink?

I just want to get into the show as quickly as possible.

There shouldn't be a problem. The table with ink and t-shirts is not directly at the entrance, but around the corner at the start of one of the two aisles. You will be able to head down the other main aisle, bypassing that area if you would like. There is a map & directory on the Scriptus website you can look at to plan your day.

Thank you David. Saw the map & the list of exibitor's tables.

Is there a place to have a good cup of coffee (not Tim's) inside the show? Once you are in the show can you leave to eat then return back?

I am looking forward to the show and should have a bunch of interesting vintage pens with me 1900-1970. If you are looking for anything send me a PM and I'll bring anything along that might be of interest.

No problem. We have a house full of introverts. I'll be manning tables 19 & 20, pretending to be outgoing. Wave as you go by...

Me too! But mine are better than Pearce's. No stinkin' 60s pens here... :)

Okay, Noob question. Is this the kind of thing you bring your existing pens to, empty and 'test' ink? or are there pens already there to test?

Think I'll pick up some new inks and want to obey protocol.

I'm travelling from Montreal to Toronto to attend the show. Hoping to pick up a Bayard pen (French, vintage).

Oho! Talk to Philip Akin at tables 5 & 6. He collects vintage French pens, including Bayard, and may have something with him.

Heh. Protocol? Come and have fun is our protocol! Claudia (Cyber6) will be running an ink testing table for such fun, so by all means bring your pens...

For the record, if anyone is coming up Saturday early evening, there will be a pre-scriptus dinner at Butler's Pantry on Markham Street at around 6:30 pm. Check the other thread for details! I really hope to see some out of towners there. :)

Hahaha, you know I'm normally a 20's and 30's guy but I do have a couple Parker 75's with me. I'll also have several flex nibs ranging from affordable first vintage fountain pen purchase to there goes my next paycheck!

I've decided to offload some of my Sailor empty vase (discontinued) ink bottles. I've got about 9 I'll be selling at my table. AND I'll be giving away leaky ink samples for free - I want rid of those things once and for all. :P

My pet just needed hospitalization and her bill is over $5k. Time to sell some stuff!

First pen show I ever attended. Still feel tired but very glad I went.

Tried to find both David & Philip but had no luck there. Anyways, many thanks to both of them.

I saw this gorgeous ink but didn't get a chance to pick it up :(

Is there any way to order it from you?

Cheers,

Marie

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
