Sheaffer Legacy Nib Clog

Hello everyone,

I have a problem that I have been trying to solve for more than a week now - the nib on my Sheaffer Legacy has dried up and I cannot unclog it.

This is the pen:

So far I've tried:

1) flushing it

2) soaking in water

The pen has been laying forgotten for quite some time.

It has been suggested by a local fountain pen shop to soak it in ethanol for a little time but I only found courage to do so for about 30 minutes - still no luck.

The main problem is that there is no flow from the cartridge to the nib.

Then I try to flush it with a syringe some small bits of dried ink do flush out, but only very little.

I thought about buying the Koh-I-Noor Rapido-Eze Pen Cleaner to try it, but since the delivery cost and time to my country would be substantial, I though that I better ask the more experienced people.

Any suggestions?

Patience is your friend. The ink dried over an extended period and it will take an extended period to get it all out. The process is soak in room temperature water that has one drop of dish detergent added overnight. Flush using an ear bulb. Repeat until all the ink is out.

The pen shop should have their collective head examined. Ethanol is an alcohol, which can damage some plastics, and may not do anything to break down the dried ink.

The Legacy sections are glued together and can not be taken apart to clean. Something like Rapido Eze pen cleaner works very will, but require some soaking or an ultrasonic cleaner to be effective. You may be able to fit a metal guitar string down the slit in the feed after a soak, then soak and try flushing again. The guitar strings are effective because they are very fine and stiff. You'll need patience to be successful.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
