LOL! Love it! OK my pens are all pals to me so...

A recently sunburst orange Conklin All American I got is the "Orange Clockwork" because besides its color, it is extremely violent to write with it!

A Pelikan Ibis 130 is the smallest of my pens it's only 120mm long! But it looks like it is always wearing a tuxedo. So it is "Tattoo" ze plane!

Another Sailor demonstrator gold trimed pal I have is called "blondy"! Because is always a wonderful good writer...not ugly or bad at all!

A no-nonsense I still appreciate is called "ma-ma in law", very consistent writer almost always! It really know how to make a point! Goodness!

But of course The Estie's! The "root bear" and the " redish" they never let you down, until their bellies are empty of course. Oh by the way this e-ink is empty now! Take care...

Although I don't name my pens, I think it is not such a strange idea to name inanimate objects as some people state. After all, does anyone know the type of boat that sunk on the night of April 14, 1912?

We all know the Titanic, don't we?

kind regards,

Hugo

But there was only one Titanic so it was necessary to name it, otherwise nobody would know what was being referred to.

We name ships even though there are many of the same class. The US doesn't just call every Nimitz Class Aircraft Carrier a 'Nimitz'. There is only one of each Parker 51, and they're all unique. So why not name them like we name ships?

I think you may find that they're all mass produced.

Pretty sure he knows that. Pretty sure his point was that each instance of the pen is a distinct entity, despite being as close a replica of all its fellows as it's possible for humans to make.

Meanwhile, this brings up a new possibility: The Borg System of Pen Naming: "Hi, this is my Lamy Al-Star, otherwise known as 5 of 19."

I know he knows it, so it's a wee bit of a stretch to call each one unique. "unique, but exactly the same"

First thought: these crazy people!

Second thought: shut up, you did name your camera...

I have several vintage pens with inscriptions that tend to acquire related names. And I have to admit to naming a pen that is not yet in my possession. It is a custom urushi maki-e pen from Ernest Shin that is in the making; based on the Extended Mina from Edison Pens. The maki-e is informed by a stained glass window in the church I serve and is named "Stardust" which is short for the Kanji on the pen "We are stardust". Given it is unique and filled with meaning for me, I thought it deserved to be called more than "the pen" when Ernest and I discussed it.

I named my first car. It was called "Jenny" -- so I could say "Jenny, take me home" and it did (honest -- there were a couple of occasions that I'll swear I made it home on autopilot). Bonus points for anyone who catches the reference....

After I got married, it didn't seem to work to name vehicles so much. Until we got our current minivan -- it got called "Gloucester" because it was the most boring name I could think of at the time, to go with the color (we bought it at the end of the model year and in order to get the features we wanted there wasn't much choice on the lot). Honda calls the color "Mocha Toffee"; I called it "boring grayish brown...."

Sounds like Forrest Gump to me.

The song reference or the color of the minivan? (I've never actually gotten around to seeing the movie, but, nope -- not the song reference... which predates the movie's release by about a quarter of a century... ;)).

The only objects I've ever named were (and still are) motorcycles. And we all know they must have female names, preferably sexy ones at that! lol

Hmm, might have to come up with a name for my ZRX 1100, but for pens no!

I'm afraid that is incorrect: the Olympic class liners were a trio of ships: the Olympic, the Titanic and the Britannic. They were built by theHarland and Wolff shipyard for the Whitte Star Line.

The point, however, was that many pople find it awkward to name inanimate things unless it concerns boats, whether they are of the same class or not.

It is correct. The point being is that each one was unique. Since when were the Britannic or the Olympic exactly the same as the Titanic? Check the literature.

I wouldn't have a problem naming inanimate objects if they had some sentimental value to me.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
