Montblanc 136

Le Vieux

Recommended Posts

I have been offered this pen, seller claims the pen is in a good state and condition. He also says the nib is the only part which has been replaced (obviously, I should think). I am a Montblanc owner already, but I do not have any vintage MBs.

Can anyone of you good fellows enlighten me on this pen, i.e. frankenized, etc? For what is worth, the seller asks 100 euro.

So many thanks!

Unfortunately a Frankenpen .... made from different pen's parts; from both 13x an 23x series.

Don't know if the barrel shows some cracks already at the end close to the filling unit.

If not, 100 € worth of parts you may use later on other pen project.

Cheers

Michael

Drats. I actually liked the idea of owning a vintage MB, bought cheap :-)). Oh well, have to pass it.

Thank you ever so much for your kind input!

Yep, most definitely a cobbled together pen. Save your hard-earned Euros to put towards something more befitting, I would also give thought to whether you should forgive the Seller's obvious lack of knowledge, or pass on him/her for any future purchases.

Happy hunting.

136 pens seem to have more factory parts variations than any other celluloid Montblanc model I've owned. But of all the flattop piston-filler MBs I've bought and sold, I kept one: a 136 transitional model with the waterfall clip. It's the right size (I use).

Unfortunately a Frankenpen...parts you may use later on other pen project.

Sad but true.

I believe the heart and sole of these early pens is found in the nib, for me it must be complete and original, unless your intention is to buy with the sole purpose of it being a parts pen if not then maybe keep looking

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
