That's pretty brazen. They did, however, get some really clear pictures of the guy, so there's some hope he'll be caught.

He won't get away for long. That was excellent video. Someone will turn him in. I just hope he's not a member

Perhaps when he's caught, his sentence could include being used to test ink toxicity while incarcerated. Requiring he consume two 50 ml samples per day to test for toxicity would help us all and he could repay his debt to society as well as to Dromgoole's? Assuming he survives the ink consumption.

Glad it sort of worked. Never tried it before but this was a special case. Those people are my friends for the last 7 years. The first 5 they let me hang out at the shop while my wife was undergoing chemotherapy at M.D. Anderson Cancer center. When she passed in July of 2014 the first sympathy card I got was from the Dromgoole's and staff.

Jon Szanto shared Dromgoole's fb post and commented that he hoped the guy wasn't stupid enough to try to sell them at the Dallas pen show, but I'm hoping he does try, is recognized and arrested.

Oh...there's a thought. I'll be there on Saturday. If I find this guy, he's going down...

My condolences about your wife, but man, this does endear the shop to me even more! I've ordered a few times and had very good experiences, myself (those Noodler's exclusives!).

Looks like my son-in-law. But he's in Italy, and anyhow, he wouldn't know or care for a fountain pen if it stabbed him in the butt. Not to mention, he's as honest as they come and would never.

I second the hope that this guy will try to sell his swag at the Dallas Pen Show and get caught.

Dromgoole's is one of my favorite places, even though I live far away and can only get there once in a great while if I am in Houston on business.

I hope they catch the guy real soon and cover him with Bay State Blue before tossing him in the, uhhhh.... pen.

May the pens bring him only unhappiness and the experience lead him to repentance. Meanwhile, I hope he is caught and convicted and that Dromgroole's receives them back, undamaged.

I hope D's will post a stolen inventory so we can know what to look for.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
