Montegrappa Rosso Veneziano

Ever since seeing the Limited Edition Montegrappa Rosso Veneziano on various website I have been coveting it. But the rational part of me says, "Dude, you don't know anything about it except it's a Montegrappa and a beautiful red color." So, I turn to the vast reservoir of knowledge and exposure of the FPN to ask if anyone actually has this pen and what you think of it.

Much appreciate any insight that can be offered.

It's one of the best deals I've seen on a premium pen in a while. You get a lot for the price. 18k nib, piston-filler, highest level of quality, celluloid, limited edition, sterling silver trim for around $600. That's a killer deal.

Fountain pens forever and forever a hundred years fountain pens, all day long forever, forever a hundred times, over and over Fountain Pen Network Adventures dot com!

It is stunning in person. I have the Rose Gold and regular Gold on loan from Chatterley. He had 20 of each made in these and has the silver as well though I think 118 were made.

I can't say how they write as I was not allowed to ink them... unless I bought them lol, I had them to do a video overview and photo shoot.

But they are stunning and the red celluloid is the best I have seen. Details and trim are well thought out and nothing gaudy on the pen. The finial I love and think they really did an amazing job here. The nib is a beautiful and unique design.

Piston is smooth and you can over turn it as it has a ratchet kind of sound when you get the piston to full top or bottom. This way you won't stress any parts.

At $550 for any version Bryant has a killer price on these for sure.

Here is the overview link and its just 2 minutes long. If the music annoys you hit the mute as I don't speak.

Stunning camera work. Thank you for the video. I'm normally not a fan of red, but these pens are so beautiful.

Thanks everyone for the feedback -- especially for the video. I take it that these are still available? I seem to recall seeing somewhere that on the end cap there is a xx/xx marking that indicates the particular pen's sequence in the limited edition. Earthen, did you notice this when you inspected the pen in person?

Perhaps an actual owner/user will come forth with a report on the actual performance. No doubt, it is a stunning piece, especially for people who love red . . . like me. :)

I don't have that but do have some of the other similar LEs based on the Classica family of pens and the write as close to perfect as expected; they have all been moderately wet with soft but non-flexing nibs that are forgiving of all inks I've tried in them. Here is my red Historia.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
