I Need Parts & Am Very New To This...

Hello,

I have a pen which was created using this kit: https://www.pennstateind.com/store/PKPAR10F24.html

I know this is a super cheap kit but I'm very attached to the pen for sentimental reasons. The problem however, is that the threaded area of the plastic end which holds the nib has started to break and is causing ink to leak onto my hand. So does anyone know if I can get a replacement part for just the end? (If possible, I'd LOVE to replace it with a full metal part so that this doesn't happen again.) I'd hate to buy a whole kit for just that part. I'm not trying to be cheap, I just don't want to be wasteful.

Thank you!

I would be uncertain that the part would be much less expensive than the kit.

Is it leaking with the ink converter or cartridge or both?

Please circle the part of the section that is leaking ink.

As I am interpreting what you said it is leaking at the threads at the BACK end of the section/grip.

The threaded part of the section does not hold ink. However if the crack goes down past the threaded area into the straight part of the section or if the crack goes into the back of the section where the nipple is, you will get a leak.

Look carefully at the following places for the leak.

- a broken section, where?

- a broken nipple on the back of the section.

- a bad converter that is not sealing onto the nipple,

- a cracked converter.

- you are not pushing the converter in far enough to seal on the nipple.

If you contact Penn State Industries, they might be able to supply a section. But for $12, for the kit, the section alone might be about half the price of the kit.

it leaks with both a cartridge and converter. in the pic below, you can see where the crack had appeared. It's almost imperceivable but that's definitely where the ink is leaking. Again, I'm not worried about the cost of buying a new kit. In fact, I'd happily pay more for just this part in metal, just to ensure that this doesn't happen again.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
