Just bought 3 sets yesterday! I think this is a great deal! I am thinking of buying one more set.

If you have a local Costco please check it out. This is a Warehouse only deal and not available online. The listed price was 19.99 - 5$ instant coupon valid only for a week or two (can't remember the end date).

[EDIT] - this is the medium size 5.xx time 8.xx

Where are you located? Not all Costcos have the same deals, alas.

They're decent. I got a pack about 6 weeks ago at Costco the same sale. So far so good with the fine and med. pens I've used (mostly wet writers). The covers show wear pretty fast, but at that price (and for the size) they're a bargain.

Before you celebrate and buy more paper, you may want to check some of the reviews of Moleskine paper. They are "decidedly mixed" in their evaluation! Price-wise they do sound very attractive.

Between my wife an I we have at least three different Moleskine paper types in the house. The old thin paper shows spreading/bleeding with very wet pens, the heavier "skecthbook" paper is pretty fountain pen bullet-proof, and the new "caheir" paper is on the thin side but doesn't bleed through with Skrip, Waterman, Sailor (regular colors) or the Diamines I've used with it. I can write on both sides.

Well, it looks as if you have done your homework. Glad to hear that there is a difference regarding some of the Moleskine papers. I will keep an eye out for the sketchbook variety. Thus far I have pretty much relied on Clairefontaine or Rhodia for my regular writing needs with occasional forays into other types. A couple of years ago I found a nice book at Walmart and several other types at Barnes & Noble.

Best - and continued success...

Just a heads up for people not familiar with Costco -- they're a "warehouse club" which means that you have to buy a membership to get in the door. If you buy enough stuff over the course of a year, it might be worth it.

We have a membership to Sam's Club (and, when we lived in Massachusetts, to BJ's, which seems to only be in the Northeast US). But we looked into Costco for our sideline business, and found that they would not sell us what we needed. As in, not that they didn't carry it -- just wouldn't sell it.... My husband even talked to a sales rep who checked into it for us. But nope. They would have happily sold us croissants that *they* baked off, but not boxes of frozen ones; so, much as we dislike doing business with a company owned by Walmart, we will stick with Sam's.... Plus, a Costco membership was more expensive.

We have friends that really like Costco, so maybe I will have one of them check and see if those notebooks are sold in the Pittsburgh area stores. But it's possible they don't. We based the menu for the business on what we could get in the Pittsburgh area Sam's Clubs -- and then found that the stores down south have a different distributor. We even found that there was a different selection just between the locations in Hattiesburg, MS and Tuscaloosa, AL....

I'm not quite sure what the policy is exactly, but non-members can get into Costco if accompanied by a member. We take our daughter all the time.

Good info on Moleskines, even if I wouldn't buy them someone might like them, it's part of the hipster uniform. Costco is a mixed bag, I was a longtime member until I realized I wasn't using it much as a single guy, so I let it lapse; it makes more sense for families and businesses. At some point they had good clothes but besides the merino shirts it's pretty much the same junk as elsewhere. You can get an additional card from a family member or a one day pass. If you're a carnivore the hot dogs can't be beat. In Canada they had these belgian chocolate covered almonds which were amazing, but not available anywhere else. Chocolaaaate...

My Costco (in Wisconsin) has a different deal: a 6-pack of the Extra-large cahier size (7 1/2" x 10") for $14.99 after $5 instant rebate. There are 2 each of black, grey, and tan covers in the pack.

I think it was last year when someone posted about the Mechanic's tool chest available @ Costco & it was also available for sale on their "online site." I ordered one & was able to do so as a NON member; perhaps this would also be a possibility for these notebooks?

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
