Can You Help Identify This Pen ? - Made In France

Dear FPN'ers,

I bought this fountain pen for about $3 bucks on flea-bay in the United Kingdom.

As soon as it arrived, I soaked it for a couple of hours in lukewarm water with a bit of shower-gel to get as much dried ink out as possible.

I inked it up and it immediately put a smile on my face - a very sweet writer.

It says 'made in France' at the top of the cap - but there's no manufacturer mark on the cap or nib.

The section of nib nearest the pen is raised slightly ( please see pics below ). The clip on the pen has disappeared.

Would love to know which manufacturer and if possible, the model.

Thank you guys.

Annoyingly I'm certain I had a similar pen as a kid and it was not a Waterman, but a French equivalent to Platignum, i.e. cheap and chearfull and found every where (news agents, tabacs, super/hyper markets, etc).

Thank you guys.

Yes the nib does remind me of the Lamy Z50.

The nib surprises me as it writes better than my more expensive Sheaffer's and Lamy's.

I am still scratching my head as to the french economy pen manufacturers ?.

Hopefully will get it solved.

As it isn't a Waterman, I'll transfer it to the "rest of Europe" forum (including France.)

Perhaps someone there recognises it.

Also, have a look at the Penbrands in the pinned topics. Perhaps some of the names rings a bell?

I'm old and often forgetful and even more often wrong but that looks like some of the Reynolds (France) marketing level pens.

That's the brand I was trying to remember.

Could be Stypen, but I find their pens don't usually look so like Waterman as Reynolds. Based on a rough sampling of pens at flea markets and car boot sales, which is not definitive!

Of course they usually do say 'Stypen' on the clip... which is missing :-)

Too many pens, too little time!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
