If this is the wrong placement admin. please move. Thank you!

The brief (?) story.

July 30th on eBay, I saw several amazingly priced BIN Japanese pens - w/ free shipping. Almost too good to be true. I decided that it was worth a risk (with both eBay and PP on my side) so I bought two of about 8 items. Next day I received noticed they "had shipped" - meaning the order had been forwarded to the fulfillment agent.

Okay, that seemed like a positive sign and I felt really good. Oh yes, receipt date was Aug. 15 - 30. This too was reasonable as price included Free Shipping.

I wait Patiently. If it was shipped by the 31st, I hoped to receive it sooner than later.

Nothing as of August 30th. Nothing as of Sept. 3rd.

Finally, late on the 3rd, I send a message to the seller that items have NOT arrived and that I still want the items. Within a couple of hours I get a response from the seller saying my money has been refunded! I want the items, not my money.

I think they may have posted the wrong prices (they were very low but not "insanely so" and that rather than fulfill the order or even contact me and explain the situation (offer a compromise perhaps) they simply sent my money back after holding it for five weeks. I think and feel that they lied to me. Performed unethically by not honoring their advertisement. AND had no integrity because they never came forward to own up or, at least, explain, their actions.

I can post a bad review on eBay, yes, I know that.

Do I have any other recourse through eBay or PP?

What would you do in my situation.

I am open to comments and suggestions. AND even simply forgetting about the whole situation.

BTW, I will not post any names here.

Thanks for letting me vent and for any responses.

What an annoying experience: I sympathise.

But (apart from increased blood pressure and disappointed expectations) you are now no worse off than when you started, as they refunded your money.

I don't know what formal options are open to you, if any.

In your position, I would either write to them directly to ask for an explanation, or simply write off the whole experience with a negative eBay review. Probably the latter - life's too short as it is - but it depends a little on what the pens were: how easy they are to source from somewhere else, and how much you want them.

Also, I maintain my own (fairly short) blacklist of sellers that I will never deal with: in your position, I would add the seller in question to that list.

Sorry for your bad experience. There are a few really good sellers that specialize in pens from the Japanese market on Amazon and "that other place" and I only use them.

They have been mentioned in other threads here and have very high ratings in both of those places.

Best of luck.

Updated information:

per "stephanos' " suggestion I decided to send a message to the seller.

BTW, the items that I "bought" were standard Platinum 3776 pens so they can be purchased elsewhere easily. The part that can not be duplicated is the extremely good price (about 30% of the lowest prices currently listed)

Well, I guess my credit card bill (through PP) will be a little lower this month!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
