Its Labor Day... So I Labored

Here are a couple of new pens that I just got done with. This is the first time I have really tried doing them as a "batch". I know other pen makers sometimes work this way. I do have to admit making three of everything made the whole process go faster. The first pen is a crushed blue acrylic that I have had sitting around the shop for about 8 years.... I kinda wish I would have used it sooner. :D The second pen is an Alumilite blank simply called "Dew'd". The third pen is also alumilite but the name actually escapes me. All three pens are around 5 3/4 long. All have sections that are about 12.5mm at the thickest. All have 14mm triple start threads. They all post fairly deep... about 1 1 /4" or so. The rings took a friggin eon to make. I always wondered why people charged more for ringwork.... I get it... I'm now in the same club. The nibs on all 3 pens are Jowo #6. All three pens are available if anyone is interested you can send me a message. I would love to hear what you think. Thanks for looking.

I love the red, green, and orange one on the bottom. The others are nice, but those vibrant colors are really appealing. I like the bands, too.

I'm with Saskia_Madding; I love the blue one. Normally I'm not a fan of blue pens, but that shade really causes the hardware to pop.

Is it just me or are the lines crisper on that one as well..?

Nice work.

Beautiful pens. The green and black one (middle picture made from the Alumilite "Dew'd") is my favorite, but all three are truly beautiful. The bands do set off the pens and make them really stand out. Sorry that the bands are such a pain to make.

Forgive my ignorance, but what size nib (extra fine, fine, medium, broad) is a Jowo #6 nib?

Sorry, #6 simply refers to the size of the feed and also then relates to the overall size and curve of the nib itself. All of the pens are equipped with Medium nibs, but I also have EF, F, B, 1.1, and 1.5 available on request for no extra charge.

I'm more of a blue fan, so the first pen looks LOVELY to my eyes. <3

Thank you everyone for the feedback. My own personal favorite is the dark blue... its simple and elegant... even a little understated. :)

Jj9ball,

Really sweet pens, classy and understated design, and the chrome clip and nib combination looks outstanding.

lovely pens.. I like the green and black one the most

Very nice. The cap bands were worth the effort IMO. They add prestige to the finish.

Lovely pens...adorable , all of them.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
