That cap is unforgivable. While the material itself isn't too bad to look at, the cap makes the pen absolutely terrible to look at.

Wasn't there anything other than black ebonite to use for the cap?

Depends on you choices and looks .. I love that combination and it's made to look good to me ,not you .. so it may appear terrible to you . You are more than welcome to make a pen to your preference with this material if you like :) .. and yes I do have a cap in the same material which is still being made but this design is aesthetically pleasing to me me and a lot other of people.. :)

      I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

      Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

      I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature.
