Pens Worth Like The M1000

Hello folks

Today, I am beeing offered a nice m1000 (without box) with a stubbed nib.

The pen is in very good condition, but it's being offered by someone who used it, so it's 2nd hand.

I'm looking to trade the pen with another pen worth the same amount.

Which pen are good to trade with?

is the Visconti Opera Elements 'air' with 23k Pd nib a good trade?

I post this here to get an idea, and when I get the m1000 I'll post this in the WTT classifieds' forum.

Thanks!

I can't tell you which pen would be reasonable to trade. The value of a used M1000 is very subjective and somewhat depends on where you live as that impacts the going rate of the model. For instance, an M1000 is priced significantly higher in the US than abroad. A used M1000 in very good condition could be worth anywhere from $400-600 in my opinion. The stubbed nib certainly could increase the value but that's also very subjective. I think that if you had a pen in that price range, the trade would be reasonable and fair (again, just my opinion). I'm sure opinions will vary as the value of anything of this nature is subject to so many variables. Good luck acquiring the M1000.

I'm not sure I understand correctly, but trading an M1000 for a Visconti doesn't seem like a good idea.

Anyhow, I wouldn't be the person to ask because I think the M1000 is a pretty unique pen in terms of craftsmanship and size, and I wouldn't be able to come up with an equivalent - unless you're looking for a somewhat smaller pen, then the m800 would be an option.

M1000 is pelikans flagship in their regular line up and I think the montblanc 149 is the closest arch rival to the pelikan. Both German made oversized piston fillers sporting huge nibs, and flagship of their respective brand.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
