Venus Fountain Pens...my New Fascination

Is there some relation between Venus and Esterbrook??

Is that how they got that amazingly alien technology to make injection molded pens in such a way that people think that they have been machined ??? :)

Amazing, really...

How do they write??

During the '60s, Venus eventually bought Esterbrook, and erased the brand. They made a Replacement Nib pen prior to that that would have been the parallel to the Esterbrook J, since they used replaceable nibs that were interchangeable between brands. From what I have so far, Venus had some really solid pens, and some really cheap junk. The cartridge pens I started this thread with are really decent, smooth writing pens. They are simple, but well made, and designed to use Sheaffer cartridges. The earlier President pens were good, and my later lever fill that parallels the Esterbrook Phaeton is another really nice pen.

Those are actually decent pens. I have a few of them. That nib should screw out, and is interchangeable with an Esterbrook nib. You just need to be careful getting it apart, since the quality wasn't always that good, and I have had sections just come apart trying to re-sac them.

Thanks very much for your response. I am positive it needs to be re-sacked. However, I am very leary about trying to do this myself as I have no experience doing that. Would you be able to take a guess as to how much it is worth? I don't remember how I acquired it or how much I purchased it for. Just trying to figure out if it is worth sending to an experienced repair person. Thanks again. :)

I've had a Venus pen I really like for a while now. It's an old cartridge fill. A President came along to join it. A couple others, including a really nice lever fill pen/pencil set (very similar to the later Esterbrook Phaeton), came along.

I couldn't pass up this deal on Sunday. I think this is the jump off the cliff...(no, I'm not planning on keeping all of them)

Just for the bulk pen lust :puddle: of it, how many of those fountain pens did you score in that purchase?

PS - just to add, this was post number 3,333 for me. On to post number 4,444!

56 in all. I still have the original 6 - one of each color. A couple months later, the same guy had found another box of 100, but wanted more than I felt like spending.

Since I just now saw this....these are decent $20 pens. I'd be happy to take a look at it, if you're still interested.

I have a Venus President that was given to me by a pen friend. He had two, I restored both of them, and he offered me one. The pen is pretty in person...the picture doesn't do it justice. It is well made and writes well. I used a #20 ink sac in these pens, so they hold a ton of ink!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
