    3

Currently 7, up from 3 last week,

and more than I said was my range.

My excuse is keenness to try a bunch of recent arrivals, where sadly the Australian seller demonstrates the least quality of work. I can improve those fairly readily so will keep those two rather than returning them. That is by the by to this thread anyway, and I still have more waiting their first turn so my restraint level is currently seven.

5 today. 3 Pelikans (M600 cursive Italic, M600 flex fine and 205 stub) all with Pelikan Edelstein Jade (my ink for this week for bullet journalling). One kaweco skyline sport and a Waterman Kultur with Waterman Bleu Serenite.

5... but i would like to reduce it... but i need, NEED them all... lol

1) Ivanhoe: great pen, amazing nib... always inked on some sort of blue.

2) MB 145: love the writing despite the "stiff" nib.. inked on Meisterstuck grey ink. (permanent) so it has to stay inked for docs, and signing, etc.

3) GVFC Classic: currently on take sumi. I need black ink in my life.

4) pilot metro on wild strawberries (diamine). I need red ink and the fine nib for when im working numbers.

5) Noodlers creeper on MB permanent blue: again, for signing, writing checks, and so on.

I journal on 1-3 pens, and 4-5 are mostly for work only. All 5 are work pens, 1-3 are also personal use.

34 at the moment. Trying out new pen/ink combinations. I would really prefer to keep it down to 10-12, but I always seem to find reasons to fill more.

The Noodler's Black (see #6) was from an old bottle that I didn't stir/shake sufficiently. It shouldn't be that pale.

The Noodler's Nile Ebony (#17) is quite a nice black ink, although no longer available. It was a Swisher special. It only looks light because the pen has an EF nib an writes a very thin line.

#18 & #19 look light for the same reason

Ten, because I like to colour code my notes and my bullet journal.

1) Lamy Safari (F), lamy cartridge Orange

2) Domain Lion 305, blackstone Daintree Green

3) Domain Lion 305, toucan Umber

4) Domain Lion 305, mystery brown (sucked it out of a mistakenly purchased budget cartridge and transferred to reservoir because I was bored)

5) Hero 358, standard Hero blue cartridge

6) Jinhao 599, toucan Turquoise

7) Jinhao 599, blackstone Black Stump

8) Dollar 717i, toucan Royal Blue (this is my new favourite pen, a beautifully clean fine line)

9) Hero 616, toucan umber:turquoise 1:4 blend (dark bluey green)

10) Hero 616, toucan umber:crimson 1:2 blend (maroon)

The Hero 616's I did the blends to match the barrels, because why not?

I'm a mess, mathematically. Right now I have 5 inked, my pen tray holds four. I have 4 ink colors, but I just bought three more. I have 5 pens inked, 6 pens needing repairs, and I'm waiting on 5 pens in the mail.

Oh how to handle the permutations.

Tom

Waterman Ideal - blue ink; Esterbrook 2048 - brown ink; Waterman Carene - black ink

Still at three here, at the moment.

But I have a new pen in the mailbox waiting for me to get home (I already have plans for it) so that'll make 4.

And then my Townsend will be home from the doctor's tomorrow, so I'll have to test the nib grind with some kind of ink immediately, so that'll make 5.

And I have a nib for an out-of-commission pen in the mail somewhere on it's way to me, so briefly it will be 6. But I'm taking my awful little J. Herbin out of rotation as soon as it runs out of ink, so I'll level off at 5 for a while.

But then I'm going to be needing more new pens at some point... *sigh* :gaah:

All of them (minus a couple of Preppies), meaning less than 20 fountain pens total. Personally, I don't see any point to having pens without ink in them, I just try to get around to using each of them frequently enough that the ink doesn't have a chance to clog up.

Currently 11 inked up:

I always have four pens inked with blue, black, red, and brown inks; use them for various specific purposes.

The rest are just for fun, some filled with the same four colors, others with more "for fun" colors - green, burgundy, etc.

I am the same way. I think all 50 or so of my pens are inked. Great choice of paper. I use the Staples Arc notebooks at work.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
