Although the pens aren't of the caliber of you guys, I did fall into this deal on Sunday. I've had one of these pens as one of my checkbook pens for a while, and I really like it. These are fun little pens, and a standard Sheaffer cartridge fits.

I'm going to try my luck on Sat. this week at this auction.http://www.auctionzip.com/cgi-bin/auctionview.cgi?lid=2770367&kwd=parker&zip=53115&category=1

Photo gallery #2 shows some pens. I know they did not show all the pens for sale in the photos. They say 90 + Parkers in the advertisement. It is worth a look and I try only for the good stuff.

What pens are these? What does the 'V' on the clip stands for?

I was saying: Thank you for posting the link, it allowed me to enjoy a VIRTUAL tour of the marketplace you enjoy & found the pens you displayed.

I am sorry if I was unclear; I was happy to see the tour you made available by providing the link.

Part of the confusion was that when I posted the link to the Karachi antique markets along with the picture of the pens I found there, it was Monday morning here and not Sunday. While you said " Thank you for my Sunday shopping expedition to the ...". I have now figured it out. Lol.

Khan Sahib:

I am salivating sitting here in Houston looking at your treasures.

My antique pen shopping is limited to an annual visit to the Dallas fountain pen show every September. Unfortunately, this year I will not be able to go because of a business trip to Qatar.

I will definitely reach out to you when I visit Karachi next time.

Best of luck.

Thank you, Ayubi Sahib. You know I would get frustrated for not being able to buy what I wanted to buy from ebay as paypal and ebay don't work for Pakistanis residing in Pakistan.

It is not so anymore. I have found now local sources and am getting pens cheaper than anywhere else.

Welcome home Ayubi Sahib.

  • 4 weeks later...

So, I decided to take a chance on an auction today. They had a few things listed, like a Waterman pen tray and a Carter's ink box, but no fountain pens listed at all. I figured that there must be something in there somewhere. I was right. There was one fountain pen in the whole auction. It was just a little black fountain pen, sitting on a table. I got it for $10.

So, I now have my first crescent filler pen - a heavily oxidized, but a pretty intact Conklin Crescent Filler 25P. The nib is really nice, but I need to get a locking ring for the barrel. I'm not so sure it was worth the effort, and I'll be resting up a lot of tomorrow for my long day.

I have a barrel for a 25 (same girth) in my parts bin with the lock ring attached. Tried to PM you, but received a popup telling me you aren't accepting/receiving messages. So feel free to contact me backchannel if you're interested.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
