S F Pen Show 2016 Is Around The Corner.

Hi,

It's my first pen show... I'm not sure what to expect.

I've got one cracked nib that needs repair. I assume that is not a while you wait kind of fix.

And I have a very pretty moore pen that even with the special tool I can't get the section out of the barrel... I need professional help to unstick it.

And I'm in need of lots of new sacs for my collection of crusty vintage fountain pens. I'm sure there will be a vintage pen with a lovely flex nib that I fall in love with but costs more than I want to spend. And I'll continue to have more ink than I will ever use, but I will need some exciting new color or 5.

And I might have pens someone wants or not.. for example https://www.instagram.com/p/BJiZQ1ugK10/ This is a lovely dragon pen, which needs a new sac, but otherwise good condition-it's cool but someone else might love it more than me. Does one bring your own pens?

Plus I'm nursing a migraine which may not go away in the next two weeks. So I probably won't go more than one day. It seems like maybe Friday is the best day while all the good stuff is still there?

Perhaps I'll meet some of you.

You are correct, a cracked nib is a specialist shop task.

But, depending on the nib, it might be cheaper to just replace the nib.

Pulling a section can be difficult. This one may need heat. In which case, you may have to leave it with the tech and they will do it at home or at their shop.

A few sellers will have flex nib pens, I will. Tough it depends on what degree and ease of flex you are looking for.

You will have to ask around about sacs. Anderson's might bring some.

If no one has any, I get mine from the Pen Sac Company, in southern Calif.

I empathize with you about your migraine.

BTW, you should come to the SF Pen Posse meets in Millbrae.

The next one will be the Sunday after the Pen Show, Sept 4th.

SEE YOU ALL TOMORROW!!! My obsession has cooled a little over the months but my work schedule had me off tomorrow so I will be there for the first day of the show! Been revisiting my wishlist and thinking of what to look out for. I'll be window shopping the following: Pelikan 120, Pelikan 140, Pelikan 400, Esterbrook SJ, Esterbrook Desk Pens, Pilot Vanishing Points/Namiki Capless. Planning on being frugal but also made some money off my art in the last few months and have been saving up to treat myself as the pen show drew closer.. Excited to see what these shows are all about.

Just landed in SFO from Mumbai after a 30 hour journey! Looking forward so much to my very first pen show and the Michael Sull Spencerian workshop...

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
