God bless Nathan! LOL!

With the new FPN rules, now I REALLY don't know what to put in my signature.

For an ancient fellow who almost only uses black ink, I have found myself looking more and more at blue inks lately. I usually look at the blues and think, "Hey, that's not bad." or "That blue is okay." This one has set me on my ear. I really and truly like this ink. I just might have to buy a bottle and give it a whirl. Thanks, Andy, for posting this.

I bet she wouldn't be amused at the new ink colour :D

Hi,

To my eye, that is more a colour of ancient Rome than a Royal Blue.

Yet I encourage our friends at Pure Pens and the ingenious Mr Tardif to seek a Royal Warrant for this offering - perhaps it suits HM's P51.

Bye,

I don't get the ink label. What is the connection between Brussels and Hanover?

I suspect that it might be because the current Royal Family are descendants from the House of Hanover (they changed the family name to Windsor in WWI, IIRC). It's probably a tongue-in-cheek reference to the US breaking away from England (George III was descended from William & Mary, the original Hanoverian monarchs -- they were "invited" to rule England after James II, because they were Protestants and James, well, wasn't) and now seeing the UK leave the EU. Also, the guy in the picture looks like he's an 18th C. redcoat (and maybe even from one of the Hessian mercenary units, who were Germans).

As for the ink itself, it looks to be an interesting color. But I'd feel a bit dumb ordering an American ink from across the Atlantic -- exclusive or not -- because of the shipping charges). I'll reserve final judgment, though, until I actually see some reviews (hint, hint). The trouble I have with swabs is that I don't think they give an accurate feel for what the color is going to look like coming out of a pen (swabs tend to be a *lot* lighter). I'd be interested in seeing a comparison between the LE ink Miles Standish (which Nathan had at last year's Commonwealth Pen show, and which, is, IMO, the best of the three LE inks he was selling there) and also comparing some other exclusive inks (Henry Hudson Blue -- available at Fountain Pen Hospital in NYC -- and Blue Upon the Plains of Abraham -- exclusive to Wonder Pens in Toronto).

Hmmm. Maybe I should talk the hubby into letting me order a bottle: I have the other three. Don't suppose Pure Pens does samples....

Pure Pens does samples, but it might take a while before the new ink are available as samples.

I could easily imagine a whole series of these "exit" inks: Grexit, Frexit, Texit, etc. :)

I'd expect a rather dull colour with this name; dull and quite uncertain, like a watery blue-grey.

I must try this one. My review of Monkey Hanger will follow tomorrow.

Does the ink fade, too?

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
