How many have experienced this?

What do you mean, "went cold"? My milk with coffee today is *grabs a thermometer* ~26°C. Okay, fair enough, tea should be around 40 to 45°C

Addict? I'm not an addict! I never use more than one pen. Not at the same time at least. The others are inked just in case this one runs out of ink.

One of our grandsons (3yrs) doesn't recognize the difference yet between 'want' and 'need'. He says things like "I really need this toy". You know you're a fp addict when a new one comes in the mail and you show it to your wife and she says, in her best imitation grandson voice "oh that's pretty... you really needed that one, didn't you."

It's like an automatic response now.. for the last 4-5 pens that I acquired, the first thing I do is break out my loupe and check out the nib alignment then take the pen apart, clean it, and put it back together again before I even ink it.

You are ecstatic when a gift package arrives from a family member that contains 5 old, broken pens purchased at a flea market for $.50 and you instantly reach for the loupe to check nibs and mentally inventory your sac supply. Other packages go unopened while you break out your heat gun and section grips and get to work on the first Wearever in the box.

I buy "back ups" of my favorite pens. I also buy multiple pens of the same kind because I want to have them all inked up with different ink colors. For example, I own 3 Lamy 2000s, 3 Platinum 3776s, 3 Pilot custom 74s, 4 Pelikan m 200s and so on. I have a serious problem.

When you buy pens you don't want from a picker to make certain he keeps looking for them for you.

Not me, but an actual practice of a friend of mine.

Worst thing with Vintage is its soooo hard to accumulate a fleet of Identical units, if say you wanted to test a dozen inks concurrently.

Plus additional variation due to efforts of restorer/tuner/wear&tear/age.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
