It's Easy To Lose Sight Of Just How Fortunate We Are At Times. Pause For Giving Thanks.

Age has given me an appreciation for fountain pens which I never had before.

Likewise.

With time I've grown to appreciate the nuances of ink-written strokes.

It's very nice that you're assembling a collection to pass down.

MY EYES......IT'S A BALLPOINT!!

Seriously, it's a great pen. I have the coral FP and had it changed to a B nib. Love it.

My kids also mention on a fairly frequent basis the fact that they will inherit my pens & watches eventually.

We also bought them each the Writers Edition set for the year of their birth - at 18 they can have them & sell them / use them as they see fit.

Being new to these forums, and given the namesake of this site (The Fountain Pen Network), are ballpoints generally frowned upon by the masses? Regardless, I like 'em along with all the others out there.

TxHarleyGuy : thanks for your original post, what you pointed out is something rather important that we who are fortunate enough to own MB pens, ought to remember.

And, yeah, since the forum is named Fountain Pen Network, some members are sticklers for using fountain pens only. But, there are all kinds of members, some who use ballpoints, FPs, and rollerballs. I used to be a stickler for using fountain pens, then in 2010 and 2011, I suffered a number of serious strokes. Using FPs became difficult for me, so, circumstances forced me to use ballpoint pens and gel-pens. I use pens custom made in Texas, from Will Hodges who is on this forum. Don't think either? 'Thought' I was doing what everyone else on here does in that they show/post/display items which they've purchased, are proud of, acquired, etc. If that's a problem for you, please feel free to take it up with me directly.

No, not a problem for me, at all. I was just curious, because the heading of your post runs counter to the Content.

I disagree with your assessment. But glad you took the time to reply, nonetheless.

"Without art, the crudeness of reality would make the world unbearable" George Bernard Shaw.

Fountain pens are like art!

How fortunate we are to have the means to be able to enjoy those things beyond the bare essentials for survival. I guess an expression of our gratitude would be to do whatever we do with more passion and go the extra mile whenever we can to make this world a little bit better.

I'm a history buff and there are days when I am amazed that I not only have the luxury of being literate, but own enough writing equipment and reading material to outfit an entire kingdom let alone a scriptorium in times go by. :yikes: Added to that instantaneous internet access, plenty of food and clothing, palatial shelter compared to much of the world, reliable transportation, and access to medical care...makes me realize how far sharing a little will take those less fortunate. :eureka:

Don't forget to extend a hand (or pen) to those who need it.

Where is that "like" button when I need it?

Good attitude, good generosity. All of us who can afford luxury goods should be grateful for our good fortune. BTW nice to see another motorcyclist here. I have two BMW bikes. Do you ride that Harley much? I just bought a Montblanc to carry on my frequent motorcycle trips.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
