De Atramentis Ink Recommendations?

TSherbs

Recommended Posts

I've prepared excel worksheet with De Atramentis inks - it's not complete, I need to update it with scented inks, but if you want, take a look or download it. Alva Edison is actually Black Red. Aubergine has at least four names: Aubergine, Louise Aston, Giacomo Puccini, Birthday ink.

You are awesome.

And no wonder I liked TA Edison, I liked Black-Red.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Create a Ghostly Avatar and I'll send you a letter. Check out some Ink comparisons: The Great PPS Comparison

Don't know where to start?  Look at the Inky Topics O'day.  Then, see inks sorted by color: Blue Purple Brown Red Green Dark Green Orange Black Pinks Yellows Blue-Blacks Grey/Gray UVInks Turquoise/Teal MURKY

Hi folks,

I would like to try a De Atramentis ink but I can't really tell where to start; I get overwhelmed by all their offerings and names. Can you help me with some recommendations? I don't live anywhere near a pen/ink store, so....

I like blue(darker), blue-black, purple, green. Anyone have any faves in these colors from De Atramentis? And permanence doesn't matter...

Thanks!

Ehm I do have all Standard inks... WIll post a comparison of all These colours soon. Just finished the Blue comparison

So I guess I will send you a postard written with These inks

I recently ordered samples of Fog Grey and Cement (Charles Dickens), as possible grey candidates and was amazed to find them distinct enough to work well together! Their particular qualities (in this case blue and green) are brought out through adjacency. There is a lot of subtlety in this grey world!

. . . so then I go to order a full bottle of Fog (which won my audition for the particular requirement of "Slate Blue") and find there are at least two other greys in the DeAtramentis line - Mouse and Silver (I'm not counting Sahara here, although that does have it's own appeal). Has any one done a side-by-side comparison of all the DeA grey range? Are they really distinct enough to justify four?

p.s. I reluctantly resisted Cement as I already have Diamine's Graphite. Not sure that I don't prefer Cement for behavior and distinct green quality (graphite's ambiguity shades between intriguing with the right nib and paper to a bit dull without) but hard to justify both!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
