DaveT

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

Thanks to everyone who previously visited my site and even a greater thanks to those that made a purchase.

Sale ends this coming Saturday.

15% or more off all ink

10% off all Rhodia and Clairefontaine Paper

No coupon code required.

** Now a request to the community. I know this is a crowded market, and there are many great companies that sell what I am selling.
** I am looking for feedback please.

** What changes can I make to my site and/or product offerings that would serve this community better?

Thanks in advance to any helpful suggestions!

David Tipton

I haven't ordered anything (saving my money for the San Francisco Pen Show) but I like your site. It's organized well and I really appreciate that each page remembers my settings in terms of order sorted and how many products per page.

Goulet, Goldspot and Anderson Pens for example don't do that and it annoys me when I'm trying to look through a lot of product.

One thing I would like is an option to view/not view out of stock items or at least a sort by availability sort of option.

I hope that helps.

Ink Sample Exchange Post

I have many unlisted but I'm trying not to spam the thread.

I also am happy to provide new vials for samples too!

  • Provide contact information (phone number and full mailing address)
  • Offer credit card payments without PayPal
  • Edit order form, you don't need "province" and "postal code" unless you ship to Canada

Site is ok, very clean. People may expect more items.

Miyuki,

Thanks for taking time to give me feedback.

I will have to look at making the in-stock/out-of-stock as a sort option. I had not considered that.

Jordan,

Thank you also for the constructive advice. I need more of this if I am to be competitive.

I have updated the contact page to show phone number. We are a home based business and I did not publish my address because I am not able to have people come to my home to shop.

Credit card payments outside of paypal are still a ways out for me. I need to grow more first.

And I am considering shipping to Canada in the near future.

I am working on increasing my product lines and filling out the ones I have. Any suggestions?

Again, thanks to both of you for taking the time to give me advice!!

David,

You can get a mailing address in some office center for $50 or so. It's about credibility. Some people would prefer to buy in America. That is especially important if you start selling luxury items.

For credit cards, check Squareup.

Re products, fountain pen friendly office paper is difficult to find.

I completely understand the address - credibility part. I am not in favor of using a virtual office address that is really not completely honest.

Square finally released their API's earlier this year. But I do not have a way for my site to talk to Square. I am not a PHP programmer, nor do I know(trust) one well enough to create the interface to Square. I will have to ask around and see if any friends know of one that they trust.

Thanks again for the honest feedback. I do appreciate it.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
