Skipping Problem In Waterman Hemisphere

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I recently purchased a Waterman Hemipshere Medium nib. It started writing as soon as I filled it with Parker Quink Black ink but it skips a lot especially when the word starts with "e" or when I write a "2". The ink flows well at one point and then it becomes dry and scratchy. Please suggest some solution for this.

Using a 10 power loup or stronger, look carefully and closely at the nib. Make sure that there is a perfect paralleled distance between the two sides. Next, look to see that the nib rests on the feed so that it conducts a constant stream of ink. If everything is as it should be in those two cases, check to see that the nib is correctly seated in the section.

If everything is found to be as it should be, then flush the nib and feed to be sure that dried ink is not obstructing the flow of new ink.

If all of this fails to provide the solution to your problem, flush the pen and try a different ink, but I cannot imagine Parker Qwink ink being the problem.

Good luck and all my best wishes for your success.

I bought a Waterman Hemisphere recently and it really, really needed a good flush. Flush it well, maybe soak overnight. You can use an ear bulb or a syringe to force the water through the feed. You can always post pictures of your nib here and some wise men will help you, if you don't know what to look for :)

I tried flushing it thoroughly and also changed the ink. Now it writes a bit more smoother but the nib makes a slight rattling sound when I write something. The sound was almost inaudible when I bought it but now it's louder and I think the nib may have some defect. I'm scared to use it further so I think I'll take it back to the shop. Estie I do not have a 10 power loupe so I think I might as well take it back to the shop.

Thanks a lot for the suggestions.

Regards,

Adi.

Ratling? Or singing? Some nibs do that, dependant on paper and ink. If that's it, no harm, although some people find it annoying when it is loud. I have one or two nibs that do that.

What ink did you use and are you using a converter?

I think the pen should have come with a long cartridge. My advise is to use that cartridge first. And in between changing different inks: DO FLUSH.

  • 2 weeks later...

I took it back to the shop and they said that both the nib and the feed section were bent. They replaced both and now it's writing perfectly.

Could somebody, please, let me know what are these dimensions of Waterman Hemisphere?

Yes, but others who replied to the post got the same pen, that's why I thought if I post it in the thread I got the answer maybe faster :)

Best,

Yes, but I see you have posted twice on this aspect

It might also have been better to start a new topic because your pen is not skipping.

Oh yeah it's off topic :D You are right. I will see to start a new topic after some more time of researching on Internet.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
