And if Nathan *does* have show specials, be ready for the line. Last year, the line was across the room and wrapped a bit around at each end when I got there, which was late morning (I was coming in from the southwestern suburbs of Boston, about 30 miles out).

Fortunately it was the width of the ballroom, and not the length....

Hmm, day before my birthday. I'll definitely check it out, hopefully.

I had intended to check it out last year, but ended up in the hospital before it... Here's hoping my luck's better this year.

And they have arrived. They will be joining in a parade soon.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Create a Ghostly Avatar and I'll send you a letter. Check out some Ink comparisons: The Great PPS Comparison

Don't know where to start?  Look at the Inky Topics O'day.  Then, see inks sorted by color: Blue Purple Brown Red Green Dark Green Orange Black Pinks Yellows Blue-Blacks Grey/Gray UVInks Turquoise/Teal MURKY

Is there any information if Nathan Tardiff is bringing specials to the Commonwealth Show? Last year he had announced new inks and several pens in advance.

Dunno. I actually didn't see the posts about last year's LE inks until just a couple of days before the show. But given that he's introduced a bunch of new inks in the past few weeks (mostly exclusives :() it's anybody's guess.

I mean, even HE has to sleep sometime, right? ;)

Surely NT does not sleep. I mean, he may go fishing and horseback riding, but sleeping? No way.

I snuck a candid photo of him last year to prove to people he wasn't a vampire (he was out in the daytime... B)) and to prove that he actually exists!

He's a lot younger looking than I had expected, given the voiceovers on his YouTube videos (in which he sounds as if he was maybe in his 70s or 80s!) -- in fact, if someone told me he was younger than I am, I would not, after having met him, been remotely surprised. Of course, there's always a possibility that there's a portrait in his house.... But we'll never know for sure. because we won't be able to get past the catfish stocked moat.... :lticaptd:

A while back there was an Ink Nouveau episode where he did a phone interview with the Goulets -- they couldn't get him actually to VA because he was working (IIRC, brewing ink). Brian Goulet described him as the hardest working guy in the business, and I can well believe it.

I'd love to see the picture! I'm a little infatuated with him.

I think most everyone I spoke to last year was surprised how young he is. Guess we assume someone who has done so much must have taken lots of years to do it.

I'm going to be attending. This will be my first pen show. Pretty excited!

I have a Pilot CH92, broad, that I'd like to get tuned. Do I need to make an appointment with anyone to get this done, or is it just a 'queue up' thing? It won't need anything major. It feels like it has no discernible 'sweet spot' when you write with it. Just feels off. I could probably do it myself, but I don't trust myself with a pen that expensive.

It is a queue up thing. Canvass the room and figure out who you want to and who is able to work on it, then sign their list. Ask how long the wait may be and come back promptly, or stick around and watch other pens get the treatment just for fun !

By the way, it's no use to ask for photos of Mr. Noodler. It's a pretty well known fact he never makes public appearances due to beinThe man you may see at shows is a trusted assistant who stands in for him. Rumor has it that they may not even be represented here at all this year because of incessant karping over their new products, and the claim by the attorney general's office of Massachusetts that they have the authority to strictly regulate reloadable cartridges.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
