I had a good time at Commonwealth last year, but this year I have a family thing and can't make it up there. Hopefully it will build (it was very small -- especially for someone whose first show was DCSS :o), but if you can make it it's a nice intro show. I got the three LE Noodler's inks, complete with my choice of caps for the accompanying Charlie pens. And Jim Baer (IIRC) very kindly got the Skyline cap off the Sheaffer Balance Oversize that we think had belonged to my husband's grandfather (the Skyline cap was from his mom's pen -- I'm hoping that someday the rest of that pen might show up in a box...).

  • 2 weeks later...

I really liked the Commonwealth Pen Show being a week before the Dallas Pen Show last year. That way we managed to get a little bit of "trickle down" of the Noodler's exclusive inks. I managed to get two out of three of them (sadly, the green did not make it to Dallas). This year, they are the same weekend. Oh, well - you can't have everything go your way!

Enjoy the pen show, folks!

Current Daily Carry: Pilot Custom 743 with 14k Posting nib (Sailor Kiwa-Guro), Sailor 1911L Realo Champagne with 21k Extra Fine nib (Sailor Tokiwa-Matsu). I'm not interested in more LE Noodler's inks so much as keeping my fingers crossed on more colors of ebonite Konrads at some point. The colors of the acrylic ones just don't wow me, for the most part; the first batch of ebonite Neponsets had some great colors, but the pens were just a bit too large for me.

I'll be there! Nice show--I've been the last 2 years.

Last year I bought the 3 Noodler's inks, but I'm not crazy about them. Anybody want them? Barely any ink used. I'll bring them if anyone wants them.

I was able to get them last year too (friend pick them up for me). If you are going this year.. and **IF** there is any Noodlers exclusives, would you mind picking one for me (if multiples... one of each)?.. Pretty Please?... I can pay via PayPal.

Last year's Commonwealth was my first pen show. It was a great introduction. Found people very friendly. Got a nib worked on by Richard Binder, picked up new Noodlers pen and ink, had a chance to start learning about vintage pens and picked one up. Looking forward to attending again next month.

If I were there, I would gladly take the Plymouth Wilderness (the green one) ink off your hands. I will be at the Dallas Pen Show, though, so I will not be able to do so. Too bad!

I'll be there. Hoping to get a few pens I've been after for a while, including a W-E Doric. Looking forward to it.

Yes Yes, please. I am totally in love with Wilderness Green. I'll gladly take them all.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
