Looks like someone at MB over-ordered hammered metal when making last year's Writer's Edition.

I'm glad they are doing a pen in Sterling Silver (my fave finish) again. Another MB to desire.

Two weeks ago the good folks at Montblanc informed me that my Solitaire Martele in OB nib will be delayed until October/November.. Meh..

Today I got a call from them saying that they'll sell me one now pre-release, while the requested nib remains on order :) So.. I have this to un-seal and ink later tonight

Don't you just love Montblanc?

In Switzerland the Meisterstück Martelé Sterling Silver retails at 1530 CHF (1570 US).

In another thread he said roughly the equivalent of $1500 USD.

Sorry I'm mid-travel. Hard to find wifi in airports. Yes that is correct.

I don't often like Montblanc's new designs in the last 15 years, but this Sterling Martele strikes my fancy. Is it a cartridge/converter filler? Which size nib?

I have hammered Parker 51 pens and hammered copper arts & crafts (Mission style) items from the early 20th century, so it makes sense that I'm drawn to the Martele.

In another thread, a question was posed about pens delivered sealed in plastic. My reply was that the Montblanc boutique never delivered a new pen to me sealed in plastic, but apparently you have received just such a pen.

The pen is really gorgeous in person. Please check recent purchases thread for more pics :)

It's a 146 size. Piston naturally etc.

I think generally LEs (POA series and up) and fragile pens come sealed.

Did you get the leaking/bubbling problem solved?

Hi Valdair.. Not yet. The pen is still not on their system so they can't open a repair request. Also they only had the one piece so they can't exchange as of today. They offered to take care of me but requested to be patient.

Too bad they made the piston knob shiny. It would have looked better in the same pattern as the body. That's one thing I generally dislike about most Solitaires - the plain and shiny back end, which doesn't seem to match the rest of the pen.

By the way, is the piston knob made of silver, too? Or is it just the regular rhodium-plated knob of other Solitaires?

Love the looks of the barrel, but I will never again buy a pen withy a shin metallic section. i have oily hands and cannot write with such pens.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
