Conway Stewart 3.0

The announcement was made last night here at the DC show that Kenro will be the US distributor for the latest reincarnation of Conway Stewart. They hope to be back into production by late fall.

Rationalizing pen and ink purchases since 1967.

Why, why,why!

If you are going to launch a new pen / brand then give it a new name. This "latest reincarnation" has no link to the original company at all... either directly, through the use of the same craftsman, or through the use of the same equipment.

Is there really any difference between this approach and that of the "Mont Blonk" knock-offs coming out of China.

Hmmmm .... Are there more details? Who will be making the pens and where? Will they be actually manufacturing or just assembling from parts from the late lamented CS iteration.

I have been confused by Bespoke British Pens apparently selling CS-labelled pens from salvaged parts and another, American, vendor doing the same. I gather "Manu" is involved in the latter venture. It seems like a chaotic landscape right now.

Interesting and to be followed I would say.

I did order a Churchill from Bespoke and I must say I quite like it. It's a lot bigger than my 58 vintage pens, but as far as I understand, it was inspired by the Duro 1, so it does feel like a true CS to me.

If the new company follows suite and stick to the style and spirit (which? The early spirit or 40/50's or the late life of the original company or CS 2.0) of CS why not calling it Conway Stewart. It was a borrowed name after all by the original founders ;)

Let's hope they don't price themselves out of business as did the previous CS iterations. They had some nice pens and were reasonably priced initially, but got a little too taken with themselves eventually.

Why do that when "recycling" a well-known name is likely to be more profitable?

Of course, our Chinese friends have twigged that with their Mont Blonks ;-)

I talked with the reps at their table briefly at the show last Saturday. They said they had some old stock that they were selling before starting with new products later this fall. The pens they had were all around $400 if I recall correctly, and definitely looked Conway-Stewart-ish under their big banner. The few modern CS pens I saw on sale at the show were fetching some big dollars...if you wanted to buy.

I also talked to the Kenro reps at the SF Pen Show. Manu (I think) has apparently bought rights to the CS name. The pens that Kenro will be distributing will be manufactured in Italy. The "Model 100" they had mimicked the CS 100 shape, but the hardware was different. The Kenro fellow said the production version will be different from the ones at the show. Note that the ones they had for sale had a captive convertor "piston" filling system. The rep couldn't tell me what filling systems would be offered on the production models, nor could he tell me about the nibs they would use.

I guess we'll just have to stay tuned. And the moderators may have to move new CS discussions from this forum to the Italy forum. Unreal!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
