You guys are gonna love this!

So last weekend I was up in Snohomish (which is kind of the antiques hub of the greater Seattle area) poking around for fountain pens. I was in the last shop in town empty handed when this little guy caught my eye. It may be hard to tell from the picture, but this is a pretty small pen in red woodgrain hard rubber (body) and gray patterned celluloid (cap) made by Ambassador (a pretty cheap American brand). The kicker: the price tag said five bucks! So for five bucks plus tax I took home a fountain pen with a very nice flexible #4 Warranted gold nib! Thing is buttery smooth and flows the perfect amount of ink for a flex nib (no railroading!). Probably runs from about a thin medium to a very generous double or even triple broad. Also, please pardon my handwriting, I'm still learning. :)image.jpeg

Awesome find! I'm still searching up here in Canada.

Very nice find - and what's the ink? Seems like a very nice match for your vintage bargain...

The ink is Waterman's "Inspired Blue" which is a very nice turquoise ink. I really like it since it shades very nicely. It comes in 50ml bottles that sell for ~$11 each so the price is definitely right.

Thank you. That might be an ink that could become locally available... :)

Waterman often found where Parker Quink is... if you know local shop selling Quink, ask them to bring in Waterman too.

Beautiful is probably a little generous...the lever has some pretty ugly corrosion on it (cheap metal with cheaper plating), but it sure does function nicely! Already emptied the sack...thing guzzles ink.

Just be careful that you do not over-flex and spring the nib.

It would be sad to ruin that nib.

Easier is better as you are learning.  Be satisfied with smaller flexing while you are learning.

So, what you're saying is that when I'm in the Seattle area at the end of the month I should stick to doing family stuff and not go pen shopping in antique stores because you've gotten all the good stuff already?

Nice find.

"It's very nice, but frankly, when I signed that list for a P-51, what I had in mind was a fountain pen."
