Good Stationary Shops Around North West Of England

Hello all fountain pen users!
I recently became interested in trying out few Pelikans before a purchase, however I cannot find any stores that would have them in-store to take in a hand and test. My question is: do you know any shops around north of England (I'm from Chester, BTW) that are worth popping in to see what they have to offer? Thanks in advance!

How did T&G Allen work out?

Nothing came up when I searched for that, has the name changed / gone out of business?

thanks

As of June 2015 it's still there, but it may have changed it's name. I think it's been "The Pen Shop" for years but was originally called T&G Allen

New Pen Shop Store At The Trafford Centre

As part of the buyout agreement, The Pen Shop has moved its store in Manchester’s Trafford Centre, to a larger site within the shopping mall, where it has been located for 16 years as one of the original tenants.

For the first time in the firm’s history no member of the Allen family will be involved with the business. The outgoing Chairman Richard Allan said: “With no member of the Allan family now involved in an executive capacity within the business, it has been decided to relinquish control to Colin McClymont and his team. The disposal to the current management team ensures long-term stability of the business, minimal disruption to suppliers and, crucially in the family’s eyes, security of employment for the staff, many of whom are long-serving.”

Thanks. I thought it might be Pen Shop.

Does anyone know any others? They don't stock TWSBI, or Pilot (the 823 is what I want to try), and also they have Lamy, but not the 2000!

So I need another shop

thanks

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
