Help Please - Found 146 In London

Good morning,

I was wondering I ask for your advice and any pointers you may have and sorry of this is the wrong place, feel free to move/delete.

I found a Meisterstueck 146 a few days ago in the SE1 area of London, and really would like to get this beautiful piece back home. And judging from the wear, I presume this pen had a huge sentimental value to the owner. I did put up some notes with my details where I found it, but have had no contact. Nearby police station, advised they no longer deal with lost property.I have, based on the engravings relating to an automotive deal (I presume), tried to get some leads on how to find the owner.is there a serial number or anything else that I (and a number of my colleagues that were up for a challenge) have missed? What do you suggest?

I would now would really value your help if there is anything else you suggest I do/or help get some more details on the pen?

The pen, apart from said engravings, has some distinctive marks that may help you or someone you know identify the pen. The pen appears to have dried up a while ago, and it seemed odd that it was lost in such a public space...

I look forward to hearing from you

The prospects are very slim of finding the right owner, they are unlikely to read this forum and there isnt a real method of finding your lost property, I know from the times when I have lost pens that I just have to get on with it.

If you are reluctant to keep it you could always sell the pen and donate to charity

Hello and welcome to FPN. :W2FPN:

I made some suggestions about what options you might try by PM, but I agree with Ken that your chances of getting this back to it's original owner could be slim.

If it has an engraving that might help. :)

Hi,

many thanks for your comments! I agree chances aren't huge, but it should show up on google either way. Any other comments welcome

How do you mean that "it should show up on google"?

The fact you are at least willing to try is to be commended

Thanks and sorry I wasn't clear. I presume anyone googling for it in a few days should find the post.I'll give it a bit of time and then consult with the forum. In the meantime, Chrissy has made some very helpful suggestions that I will follow up!

thanks again

That is remarkable thinking, I tried it out and it works.

You never know, the owner might be a member! Great thinking and even better character. You, sir, are a gentleman :)

The ink window, clip engraving and nib point to a pen from the 70s-80s. I hope you can find the owner but in the meantime try to keep it healthy. Feed it lots of ink and make sure it gets exercised and does not just get shut away pining for its lost owner. Try to get it out in public so it can make new friends.

It is kind of you to go to such effort to return the pen to its owner.

I hope that when I lose a loved pen, the finder is as kind as you.

I also commend you for your honesty there is a famous pen repairer based in London called Henry Simpole or trufflefinder here on FPN. if I lost a pen in London I would certainly contact him. a pen of that age may well have come across his repair bench or maybe a Montblanc boutique in London may have seen this pen.

The law states if you have made all reasonable attempts to find the owner after three months it is yours if you kept it and the owner turned up in the future you could always return it.

I hope that I never lose a pen. :o

However, it would be nice to think that if such a disaster ever befell me, then it would be found by someone like Nostrum.

thank you all for your kind words, but I have a hunch you'd do the same, and enjoy the challenge like I do (and this maybe being my not-so-altruistic reason). A quick google search to lost/found does now point here, so let's sit back and wait.

With regard to pointers (thanks @my63 and @chrissy) - It doesn't look like a pen that would have have it's regular MOTs, but i will try and will pop into the shop at Canary wharf as well next time I am there, just in case.

I certainly will try to get it back in order (the piston is broken), but I do feel this would never become 'my pen'. Let's give it a few weeks, be optimistic and, failing that, and find it a better home than mine in aid of a cause of your choosing, given your shared enthusiasm and help.

Perhaps we could organise a Charity Raffle in the PIF Forum??

I believe this is legal in the UK were you (and me) are, although I know not in the USA due to Shawn Newton having to sell postcards for his Scholarship fund and not run a raffle.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
