Clear Glue For Acrylic Conklin Demonstrator

Any recommendation on a clear glue for a clear demonstrator? I don't think dropping it in hot coffee would count as a warranty repair so I am thinking of fixing this myself.

Best advice is to get in touch with Conklin first and see if you can get a replacement cap before making any attempt to do the repair yourself.

It is a numbered edition Mark twain and the number is on the cap. I've tried reaching out to them but have received no replies.

I'd say remove what you said about hot coffee, and just reach out to them for warranty. At worst, you'll pay the repair costs, but I am certain it'll get special consideration given its limited edition nature.

Nah I can't do that kapanak. Accidents do happen and I don't like being dishonest. I'm very much a DIY guy and do it because if it happens again I can remediate it myself.

Thank you for the suggestion FPN Super Moderator I'll give that a shot. Though really if I could fix it myself the more the better.

Gutted for you. I adore my B&W Mark Twain and often thought of acquiring a clear one in the past . . when I used to buy pens . . .

Hope you sort it.

I would have been tempted with Araldite epoxy glue but pretty sure it's opaque and not clear :(

  • 1 year later...

For anyone who may read this a year later.... I found a solution. I was able to purchase a liquid plastic called "5 second fix." Once applied I moved the parts into the position I wanted them in and reviewed where the plastic liquid was so that I didn't get runs. I then applied the UV light to harden the material and sure enough clean, clear and unnoticeable without any worry of the pieces coming apart. I added this to the cap piece and dabbed a bit on the clip to keep it in place. This liquid plastic seems to work similar to how a dentists UV light works when getting a filling. It hardens the plastic and it remains clear. I have had it on my pen for the past 6 months without issue.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
