Sailor Kop Naginata Togi Flow Issues And Resolution.

I recently received a Pro Gear KOP with a medium Naginata Togi. The thing would just not write consistently. I read the boards and saw several people with the same issue...

It would write upside down, at 90 degrees and up to about 75 degrees. Any flatter then that and it would just starve for ink.

I flushed it 3 times, tried 3 different inks, and tried different paper. No improvement!

Right when I was about to send it in, I decided to pull the nib and feed. The ink channel was completely clogged with white paste! The paste looks like bubble gum and is used to seal the threads on the nib unit to the section. The feed's channel was also not lined up with the cut out of the nipple where the cartridge or CC connects.

I completely cleaned the feed and reassembled it correctly and it is now writing much better.

I just wanted to post this in case anyone else has a similar flow problem. This would make sense as the problem since it would write upside down and at 90 degrees since the ink could bypass the clogs in the ink channel.

Thanks for posting this info!

I'm actually waiting for a n-m to arrive (but in a large 1911, not in KoP).

I'll be watching out for this problem.

So after the initial priming of the feed runs out, it had problems again. Just sent it back today for the retailer to look at. Will keep you posted.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
