Hello From Chicago!

I am so happy to find this amazing resource and learning how many are admirers of fountain pens. I still have the first Sheaffer my dad gave me a long time ago. I recently got re-addicted to FPs and went on a shopping spree :)

Good to meet you all and I look forward to good conversations, knowledge transfer and camaraderie.

Cheers!

Hi folks,

Thanks for the welcome! The Sheaffer is what I believe to be the Imperial model. 1970s... getting old! It's got a blue body, stainless/silver cap with the classic short clip wearing a white dot. Writes like a champ and I love it.

As far as Shopping goes...it's a bit embarrassing (:) ) what I accomplished in the last 30 days...I got

1) 2 MBs (149 / 146 (in transit))

2) 2 Pelikans M800 and M1000 (in transit)

3) 1 OMAS NOS Paragon - old style

4) 1 OMAS Maserati Ltd - medium nib FP

5) 1 Sailor Realo

I need help and therapy :)

Cheers all!

Hello, Cuda, and welcome to the Fountain Pen Network. Glad you have joined us. That was quite some shopping spree! Too bad you didn't find a nice Esterbrook with a 9xxx series nib in it. Well, I have heard it said that one can't have everything.

Please don't be shy. Ask all the questions you have and don't hesitate to state your opinion. I hope you enjoy your time here.

Hello everybody!

I'm Crystal from Cape Town, South Africa.

I've been writing to penpals for over 12 years and recently started bullet journaling.

It was when I was trying to hunt down good journal notebooks that I stumble across this lovely forum!

Still an absolute beginner at lettering and calligraphy, I really hope I'll learn from the different topics discussed.

Thank you all! I had no idea that my first purchase of the 149 would result in a seeming addiction - I have completely over-extended myself :)

While I'm no expert, so far I believe the MB nibs to have the most consistency in terms of flow and control...though the OMAS Paragon nib is nothing short of a masterpiece!

Hiya

Well for someone new like myself you've jumped in deep with those pens, well done. I've set myself a stationery fund / budget or I'd max out all my money because this hobby is so obsessive. Get some nice inks. Have a look on The Pen Habit that's a really good blog to see some nice inks. There's fpn inks too, l like the brown and the black Violet.

Best wishes everyone.

Hi there!

I am a bit impulsive by nature and definitely jumped in with both feet :)

I love the ink reviews posted here and went ahead and bought a few bottles (Blues, Reds, Browns, and Blacks) by MB, Pelikan, Waterman, J Herbin, Aurora, and Pilot Iroshizuku.

I can't believe how much I have started liking Brown Inks!

Cheers

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
