Don't Tell My Wife!

its simple math:

If you have more ink than you will use in your lifetime on your CURRENT daily usage, then... You have to learn to use more every day.

Then you might realize you dont have enough ink to sustain such usage.... So you buy more inks, a BUNCH more.

Its a cycle, and like nature: equilibrium should be impossible, there is only Chaos.

If your wife is a quilter, she may well understand. I believe the quilter's motto is: "Whoever dies with the most fabric wins!" :D

one day I noticed that my turquoise ink bottle was emptier day by day and I was not filling at all . Later I knew my wife was using this ink as dye to cover a white patch on my sons jeans!

My (deceased ) mother used the royal blue ink to brighten the white clothes she washed herself.

Another way to justify (altho WHY it is necessary to do so evades ME) is you won't have to face the obstacle of refilling from a "near empty" bottle when you have so many bottles to choose from!

No wife right now but my girlfriend did question why I had so much ink the other day. I stuttered and stumbled very badly trying to think of an excuse that didn't sound so lame! Ha! She didn't mind me having so much ink just wondered why I needed so much ink. When I said it was more a want than a need thing she was satisfied. I'm actually limited right now by storage space, can't decide if I want to get rid of some ink to make room for new or clear off another shelf and have more ink storage!

I am sure I have enough to last me until the end. But I keep surprising myself with some stock currently in the garage and some of which which I had forgotten.

There is 30 year old Skrip in turquoise, yellow and green, several bottles of Omas grey, 6 bottles of Waterman red and at least as many of Montblanc/ Cartier burgundy; all these are pleasant 'finds'. More recent buys too have been forgotten: a bottle each of Edelstein Tanzanite and Sailor blue black that I can't remember buying.

There is much wisdom in keeping one's entire stock in one place, if space allows. I really should try and do this.

I don't have a wife at present but then I don't have any Diamine ink either. I can't end my days without buying some Diamine.

I am fully equipped with Wife 1.0

As of this week my ink supply may last me until my nib dries and my sac crumbles. However, I wonder whether there should exist an implicit assumption that it may be morally reprehensible to have ink supplies which may not be exhausted or 'worn through' before we go not gently. Do we hold the same moral stance on exhaustive usage of our socks, or knickers? At least someone after us may still use the inks. :)

And the corollary is: "Whoever dies with the most fabric is dead.... When's the estate sale?"

I will not admit this to my wife, but as I look at the ink I have....it's quite possible I have more ink than I could expect to use in my natural lifetime.

Actually, since my work is dominated by computer entry these days, I would say it's quite probable.

Kenny, if you enjoy the ink variety and can afford it, enjoy it. At least you have something to show for the money you spent. Some people spend a fortune on alcohol, gambling, or fine cigars. I bet your wife likes shoes, purses, or what not, that she doesn't really "need" either. Everyone has a hobby, or should. If people aren't married, find a partner who likes the same hobby you do. Then you won't hear them complain about too much ink, pens, or paper...lol.

Another anonymous inkoholik here... For 15 years, I have halved a bottle of blue Quink and a bottle of 4001 black. And I'm a daily writer (I enjoy other means of writing as well). The problem is purely financial - for just a week I now have several litres of expensive ink... And no, I don't feel like I have saved any money from not having to buy expensive ballpoint or gel refills anymore.

in my natural lifetime.

Of course, we are going to tell your wife, just as soon as you give an address or telephone number.

Have only as much ink as gives you joy. More over, since joining fountain pen obsession, your life has not been natural. :P

Auf freiem Grund mit freiem Volke stehn.
Zum Augenblicke dürft ich sagen:
Verweile doch, du bist so schön !

Hey! Very true!

If she gives me a hard time about using up my current ink before buying more, I'll just tell her she has to wear out all the shoes, dresses and purses she already has before she makes another trip to the Chanel boutique.

More than one causes more trouble than too much ink.

Unless all the wives buy ink, then it's all the more fun. ;) haha

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
