Fake Montblancs On Ebay Again

parban

Recommended Posts

Some sellers with zero feedback ratings are selling fake Montblancs ---the goldplated solitaire 144 version --repeatedly. One has fetched a good price also. They are now changing the converter to fool. The nibs and the sections clearly reveal their real worth though.

Something must be done to stop this practice.

My thanks and regards to all.

Come on! Ebay would not be Ebay without fakes.

Sorry, but they will never go away.

I was looking at S.T. Dupont lighters the other day. I noticed that there were fakes, but the sellers market them as S.T. Memorial.

That is to say, I don't mind copies/clones (if that's what you want to spend your money on or suits your budget) as long as the seller isn't trying to rip you off with the price of an original and clearly tells you that it is not genuine.

So, I think eBay should in fact act to stop theft/stealing/fraud but not necessarily the sale of fakes.

Montblanc should be removing them, but they aren't very good at the job.

In my experience, ebay rarely take any notice of reports, and even if they do, the cheap fakes have been sold by the time they do anything.

Yes, I reported against one fake and ebay did just nothing!

Montblanc fakes cost only around 30 US $ and the price reduces drastically if purchased in bulk. These fakes are being sold at around 300 US $ "with box and papers"!!!!!

If all aware report against them, ebay may do something. Otherwise theses will continue to be sold as originals and many will be robbed.

Other side of the coin is also there. Some customer had got one original, reported is as fake and when asked to return, returned a fake MB and got full refund. This I knew from one seller's description.

So the problem is serious enough. Penlovers purchase pens at high prices and they at least need some protection. Its applicable to the genuine sellers too.

So reporting aginst whenever fake is seen and making all known buyers aware are only two possible strategies.

BTW I dont think piston filling models have been faked as thats a difficult task. So opting for piston fillers may be one way of saving oneself free while buying.

My thanks and regards to all.

Don't count on that for long.

First, piston fillers are not more difficult to make, no harder than faking piston fill converters which is very common. Piston fill pens are also sold that are very inexpensive and genuine; the Reform 1745 is a great example.

These threads bore me as they offer nothing to the forum that 100s of other threads have also failed to offer.

You get all sorts of fake things from all sorts of places. You need to do research before buying and then you should be ok.

The only thing you can do is to purchase from authorized dealers, or if buying second hand, ask for the original receipt. Also, use common sense, who will sell brand new (never inked) pen that cost $700 for $300?

On ebay sometimes very costly pens sell at around 300 US$.

Also, all these models are not always available with all dealers as these have been discontinued.

Then simply ask for the original receipt. My experience is that usually you get what you pay for.

Ebay by it's nature will not give you a method or means to report fakes. Even when you've purchased them. You have to resolve it with the seller. If it escalates beyond that, it's more of a paypal refund issue. But there is no function to report counterfeits or fakes and/or it's extremely difficult to do.....

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
