Silicone grease is also used by watch repairers for sealing casebacks; after all it's for use in combination with rubber O-rings. Of course scuba divers use those a lot as well. I could have got some Seiko silicone grease but my local scuba equipment shop has it and a bit cheaper too.

No, I am not going to list my pens here.

Silicone grease is also sold in sporting goods stores for use with fishing reels. I've used it for years with no problems.

I bought one small bottle of silicone grease for Rs.40 from a shop which sells watch parts. Watch repairers use this for making case waterproof.

  • 1 year later...

I'm using it. It's good enough, and I've gone through less than one fifth of the container over the last six months.

One kilo would probably be handed over to my great-grandchildren as part of the familial inheritance :lticaptd:

Has anyone used this

Sheldon Silicone Oil Gear Lubricant (25 ml) https://www.amazon.in/dp/B01J82AXAM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_cJcbAbAA7AXEK

Is it a good substitute for silicone grease?

This seems like silicone oil and much thinner; good for piston rings, but not sure if it has the stiffness for sealing threads.

No, I am not going to list my pens here.

can normal grease be used which is used in machinery i bought it for 20rs from a automobile garage

Automobile grease can harm the pen material. You need a grease that is inert on the pen material. HTH.

In case you wish to write to me, pls use ONLY email by clicking here. I do not check PMs. Thank you.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
